Power steering return pipe...

Member
Has corroded and sprung a small leak... Dribbling all over the oil cooler. The job looks a little tight but do-able with the headlight pod out. Where to get the pipe though? Porsche dealer only?

Thanks for any further info. It's for an otherwise well behaved S2...!

The pump to rack pipe is £170+ vat from OPC, not sure about the return, probably a similar silly price. this guy just made me a bespoke pipe for £75. http://www.powersteeringstore.co.uk/

That's a big help Edd, huge thanks. Did they need to see the car to make up the part, or will they be able to do the honours without seeing the car? In any case for that sort of saving I'd drive to Coventry and pick it up. My info could fit I'm sure.

Thanks again, Jonathan

Not sure but couldn't you see if PIRTEK could make one up for you?
PIRTEK have a reputation for being excellent; I've never used them for car pipes but have used them for other things and they are as helpful as you could wish.

They will need the old pipe, but have mobile units which make pipes up, so if you take your existing pipe off the car they can come out and copy it, and you then re-fit the new one.

I meant I wasn't sure about the pipe Oli as PIRTEK don't have all the connectors in the world but they can order most. I use PIRTEK almost on a weekly basis for work and yes I totally endorse what you say mate. They always come up trumps for me. Especially when remanufacturing stuff in flexi that was previously in steel and has fractured due to vibration but I digress. I usually remove the pipe and take it to them. Call out always involves an extra fee. Plus I have been there that many times and know the guys that well I could probably blag it on work's 65% discount [;)]

I had this happen, but accessed it from inside the wheel arch - removed the wheel and plastic arch liner. The problem was one of the plastic mounting clips on the pipe had created corrosion on a small section of the pipe.

With my MOT the next day, I used an 8cm length of fuel hose to repair it.

suggest you consider it from below before pulling a lamp

good luck
