Power steering fluid??

Just doing some basic checks this weekend on my '90 Carrera2 and noticed the power steering fluid was a little low. Looked in the Porche handbook which recommends ATF hydraulic fluid (Dexron). Yet in Adrians Streather book on Page 258 he again states Dexron II or III but has a caution attached to NOT USE synthetic ATF fluid which he says will destroy all seals and gaskets!! Could anyone recommend what to use?

Mine was low, and found the correct stuff (as specified in the owner's manual). I was advised against Dexron II as the garage said the original was better for 'older' cars.
As far as synthetic is concerned, I believe you should never mix synthetic and non-synthetic fluids. Just an owner's view, not a mechanic......
