A word of warning to anyone in Cheshire who might be interested in using this OPC.
I'm well aware of the comments around regarding the 'variable' standard of service from OPC's but as I'd only recently bought the car, I wanted to give them a chance when something went wrong. You may remember we actually had some sunshine a few weeks ago. Well, I took the hardtop off and left the car outside overnight. Big mistake!
Much water in car, many warning lights and no alternator charging. Took it straight round to the OPC as I was going away on a weeks holiday the next day and asked them to find and fix waterleaks, dry the car out and sort any electrical probs.
Also asked them to refurb the alloys as they were quoting a reasonable price and the car would be with them for a good week at least. Didn't need it as I was away. Also asked them to do an airbag check as it was overdue for one and had been missed by the last dealer.
Also assured that PCGB members get a 10% discount. Not bad I thought. I reckon they saw me coming.....
Two weeks and a lot of phone calls later they claim to have fixed the car. Forgot to do the wheels, so had to hang onto it for an extra couple of days but I wasn't in a desperate rush for it.
Drivers door seal leaked so had been replaced. Generator and battery had failed so had been replaced. Stripped all the inside out and dried it. Assured car watertight and tested ok.
On the day they were due to deliver it back to me they drove it out of the workshop into the rain and water pi$$ed in! Seems they hadn't bothered checking for any other leaks after they found the one in the door.
However, they didn't want it around now and didn't seem interested in sorting it out, although they'd assured me it was done.
Conversation went "we've got a phone number for a trimmer why don't you try there. Or we could put a new roof on for you"!!!
Eventually put the car into an independant who cured it quickly and cheaply. One loose seal which needed realigning. Job done. But while he was doing this he checked the car over and found the lacquer was peeling off one of the wheels already after just 5 days and two short drives!
Then we check the bills (yes I should have done this sooner, but work got in the way) and find they've not applied the promised 10%.
Cue call to OPC to be told, "ah, that might be a problem as we'll have to raise another bill, credit yours etc etc...." Of course all my fault for them not doing it right in the first place! But now no guarantee they'll even give me the 10% they promised in the first place.
I'm embarrassed at how much I've paid for shoddy workmanship, most of which I'm going to have to get redone or have had redone - roof seal and wheel refurb.
Below is an extract of a letter I sent them at the weekend. No reply yet though.
1.
I put my car in with you to have it made watertight again following a bad leak. You did not properly check the car after the first leak and then handed it back to me without offering to do the job properly.
2.
The wheel refurbishment was poor and lacquer has already started peeling off one wheel.
3.
Promised 10% discount has not been applied and I have been made to feel as if it is my fault and that you are "˜doing me a favour' by sorting it out. Either you offer the discount, as I was advised when I dropped the car off, or you do not. If not let me know and I will advise PCGB accordingly.
4.
Finally your engineer could not find my service book to stamp it up for the airbag inspection, despite it being in the wallet, in the holder, under the steering wheel "" the same place as these are kept on similar models. If he cannot check in the right place, what guarantee do I have that he has done any of the important work correctly?
Number 4 just makes me want to cry, These clowns can work on my car but can't find the sodding service book in it's holder??????
I feel a complete prat for trusting these people. If you put your car in there, make sure you get any offers of discount in writing and don't pay anything until you've tested whatever it is they are supposed to have repaired.
