£2k is quite a lot of money considering that when you bought it new it was only a £1200 optional extra. I wish I had the money back then and did it when I ordered it (but they never had a demo car with this option on so I didint want to take the risk). I wasnt expecting Porsche to charge £800 in labour! Maybe in another lifetime...

 
Hi guys.

Had the Porsche Sports Exhaust on the demo car I had while waiting on new car to be ready. Sounded amazing so now I really want one put on my car. Was quoted £2k by Porsche Edinburgh and have a few questions about it:

- Does the Porsche Club GB discount on Porsche parts work against the sports exhaust?
- Do Porsche return the standard exhaust to you after fitting the PSE or do they keep it?

If you didn't specify otherwise Porsche would dispose of your old exhaust. I'm sure they would be only too happy to give it you back though.

Discount - ask the question! I would also ring around for the best price. I had a customer recently who saved a lot of money by travelling to a different dealer for this job - more than offset his time/petrol.

Reason for asking about own exhaust back is that I have a friend wanting one so he can get it modified be Gert and still have stock one to put on his come time to change

As a Club member you're entitled to a 10% discount on parts - whether or not the PSE counts in this respect, as Lee says it's worth asking the question.

Looking back I note that a member was quoted about £1,600 to supply and fit a PSE by Reading - but that was back in 2007..! Another member got £100 parts discount off that.

I'm sure there are reputable Porsche Indies in your area and it will be worth asking them for a quote. It's a relatively straightforward task.

I'll ask them when through at the demo day in Glasgow tomorrow and see if they will do discount and if they can do it for less that £2k. Have been recommended a good indie near Edinburgh too so going to give him a call tomorrow and see what he could do it for

Hi ive had a hand made exhaust for my Cayman made by Tony Banks of Leeds cost was around £400 with life time guarantee you can have it made as loud as you want and different tail tips Mark.

You have a new Cayman and it is under warranty, ask different dealerships for their price on doing the change, it can be beneficial and ask for the original exhaust so that you can pass it on, it will earn you some of the cost back, check with the parts dept on the cost of a new exhaust!

£1200 as an option and £2000 for having it fitted may not be so far off as an indication of how much they cost!

Porsche exhausts have a long life Porsche call them ten year exhausts, so no real concerns on warranty but if you were to fit a non Porsche exhaust it could void your warranty.

 
I don't think £2000 is a bad quote including fitting. When you buy the car new, you get an exhaust. If you spec it with PSE, the price goes up by £1230. You don't get the car with the original exhaust as a spare! I would imagine the standard exhaust replacement fitted by a Porsche dealer would be at least £1000 so PSE at £2000 fitted seems reasonable and you can retain the original as a spare. In addition to the exhaust itself there may or may not be some alterations required to the loom plus the PSE button on the centre console so all thinks considered it sounds ok to me. Even better if you get 10% off the parts! You only live once.

 
Thanks for all the responses guys. Im going to go for the PSE as won't void the warranty and having listened to a few different exhausts over the last few weeks I prefer the sound of the PSE. Lowest quote I have got is £2060 which includes fitting PSE button etc. If anyone else is looking to go for the PSE let me know and will see if we can get a group discount

 
I think it's a good price. Having ordered my car without, I borrowed a Cayman S from Porsche Chester for the weekend which has PSE fitted and through that experience I had to add it before the specification was locked in. I pretty much use it all the time unless I'm cruising on the motorway. You'll love it!

 
I'm a devout PSE fan.

I had the PSE retro-fitted to my first Cayman Gen 1 2.7 by my local OPC and it cost £1760 back in 2008. I did get offered the original exhaust to take away but declined.

All my subsequent Caymans have the PSE fitted.

Needless to say my new 718 Cayman S PDK also has the PSE option ticked.

Some think the PSE is juvenile. I disagree. Each to our own.

Yeah I love the sound of it but not sure the missus does :) when I had the loan car with PSE a neighbour was chatting about the car and said he is sad to see it go as the noise of the car always made sure he didn't sleep in for work :)

Did a drive through Glencoe to Oban with it and it was amazing. Just waiting to hear back from Edinburgh Porsche now regarding accurate price and dates for fitting :)

 
I am getting the PSE system retrofitted on my 987.2S at a specialist for £1862.00 + VAT, it is the only option my car does not have and fortunately can be fitted...

 
Have you had it fitted yet or heard one with it on? You won't regret it. Wish i had mine installed before collection as going to be a few weeks before can get car booked in for it

 
The car is booked in for a few weeks time, I have the 6 year major service which is going to be completed at the same time.

I have had the car since September last year, the service is due in September - but I cant wait...

I have heard a 911 with the switchable exhaust and really liked it.

When are you going to get yours fitted? Are you going for genuine Porsche or aftermarket? I am going for genuine Porsche as I want to keep the car OEM standard

 
Yeah it sounds amazing. You will spend a lot of time searching for tunnels :)

Im going for OEM as well (£2060 fitted) as still have 2 and half years warranty left so don't want to mess with it. Hopefully getting it fitted in 3 weeks time but depends if I'm called into work that day or not as I'm oncall then. Will post a vid once i get it but always find sound never sounds as good on vid clip as it does in person

 
I think that's about the same price fitted I am paying. the price I had quoted in an earlier post was for the parts. I have asked if the PCGB membership discount would apply on the parts- so we'll see- no harm in asking.

The PSE is the only option the car didn't have which I wanted.

Yeah, the tunnel search will be on.
