Just had 2 days at Harewood House VW Festival in Porsche display, was thinking what a fab place for Porsche Festival, acres of grass space, nice walks, bird garden, penguins, think it's run by a charitable trust. Fab event, stalls, entertainment, just putting it out there. Deryck Thorp,
 
For about 15 years that's where it used to be, opposite the house.

That's where it all started some 25 years ago.

Then Harewood decided they would rather have weddings and didn't want us anymore and hence the move to Lotherton.

I did notice that the VW festival was there, maybe they would welcome car events back, but no doubt at quite a scary price.

The traffic used to be horrific getting there though for The Club event with huge queues in all directions around Harewood. Once I believe they went back to Collingham!!

Great once you were in other things to look at too, penguins, farm etc.
I thought the motorist event was a good show this year with no que's or hanging around in the heat.

 
Nice place as you say but entry and exiting is horrific. If the festival was to be held there I won’t be going. That said the picnic brigade would love it and theyare probably nicer people than me.
 
Harewood is a great venue, there's plenty to keep families occupied which makes it easier to drag them along with other things to do other than stand around cars all day.

It always used to attract a large number of non Porsche owners to come along and look at the cars, made it a successful day for all involved, and as you say it's a top spot for a picnic.

The Fathers day show used to suffer the same problems though, was horrific to get in and out of, even when they used to stick traffic police on the traffic lights. Very few of these kinds of venues are great the for mass access / exits.


 
Porsche Festival actually started at Embsay Railway station in about 1994/5 as the R7 Concours and that was the first one Strasse sponsored it moved then to Harewood where it stayed until Harewood asked us to move on (believe they had a change of event management and that threw spanner in otherwise working cog) So Mark and Carol and Strasse relocated to Lotherton which seemed had all the necessary, interestingly the following year Harewood came back and asked if we would return but by then Lotherton was found to be a far better site and the Council far more accomodating and free with what we could and couldnt do, and also very cost effective for everyone. So it stayed there and our lovely ad guys rebranded it the Yorkshire Porsche Festival probably around 2012. We did speak to Harewood both last year and this however the costs were astronomical, they had little spare in terms of dates available, coupled with us fitting in with other PCGB activities and PCGB Motorsport and the general feeling we got was that they felt they had enough car shows going on.

Interesting. I didn't know about the Embsay Railway station.

I always thought Dave started it himself at Harewood with a few cars and a trestle table and it was later that the Club came along.
 
Ah the trestle table days! that was the first one when we moved to Harewood but the Embsay station was prior to that where we joined Malcolm and Linda Brown, thereafter Ian and Sharon Gilmour and then your goodselves Mark and Carol. In the words of Don Maclean its...... a long long time ago but very enjoyable its been
