Chaps,

I can't claim credit for this, but it certainly made me smile pretty broadly!

Extracts from conversations overheard in the Porsche styling and Product Planning department.

Wiedeking is speaking ....

ca. 1996

"Mensch. Der 911 costs vaay too much fur der building. Make it cheaper. Hey! Use der vront bit vrom dat new Boxster ssing."

12 months later

"Zat vent vell. I voss sure zer vud be complainink, but nobody noticed zat der qvality is a bit scheisse now. Krepp, zo, ve need more monneys. Ver iss everyvun else making der monneys? 4x4s you say? Rrright. Let's make vun of dose ssings. Vell I don't know.... stick der badge on der VW oder ssumsink. Den ve mek good monneys."

At a later meeting.

Go buy VW Horst, und brring me a sendvich. Tell ze guys downstairs to set der photocopiers on 30% beegger. Ve're designing der new Porsche zaloon later.""

Some time after that at a 997 planning meet.

Oli.

Oli, I read that earlier and howled with laughter!

I'm sure there is merit in a 'family resemblance' for car makers, but come on, all they appear to have done is take the front of a 911, the rear of that monstrously ugly X6 thing and bolt in the middle the four doors of the Cayenne....

I'm sure it will sell superbly, but this is conservative lookalike styling taken to the max[8|]

OK, now look what you've made me say.... I'll be excommunicated now, or worse...[8|][;)]

I wouldn't be surprised if this is an exact transcrible! Porsche have never been cutting edge when it comes to styling. They have always concentrated on what really matters - and it shows.

Lots of talk about them adopting that VW concept for a 4 cylinder 'entry level' sports car and Porschifying it...

Hmm, now that sounds familiar[:D]

I know the engineering is second to none, but they have some of the laziest stylists around...

Just my opinion and in no way reflective of this forum's official view....

..just in case anyone is watching[;)]
