Porsche Dealer Service OR Independent?

I have a 'T' plate 996 ( 5years old now) and it has Full Porsche Service History and 36k miles.

Its due for a big service and the charges I have got are Independent PCT (£1200) and official (£1400) ( including RMS leak fix).

Is it worth going official Porsche since it would help in the value of the car or is mine getting on a bit that it doesnt make a difference.

[&o]For the sake of £200 I would personally keep the FPSH upto speed
 
Yeah, I had a similar quandry with mine last month. I wanted to keep the SH a FPSH one through its 48000 mile service in case I wanted to sell it and I also got a free pre-warranty inspection done. What are they charging for the service? I was £700 at Town and County in Aberdeen.
What I wouldn't do is get the RMS done together with the service at the OPC, as this will be much cheaper elsewhere. It is a £10 part (or similar) and is nearly all labour. For instance Ninemeister in Warrington charged me £45 per hour for my variocam; the labour rate at Synter in the Glasgow OPC is £90. Over a 5-6 hour job that is a couple of hundred quid saving.
PS If you think you need a new clutch the RMS change is a good time to have it done -- they have to take it out and it was a £250 part when I got it done a couple years ago (think the price has gone up though).
 
I agree with Daro, for £200 i would keep the history, plus if you are having RMS done it will be guaranted for 2 years with OPC, not sure how none opc work that one.

PS Should have said that I would shop around for prices for services amongst the OPCs (and ask if you can provide your own oil -- that would have saved me £55-60 at Aberdeen if they had let me) and for RMSs at the independents.
 
Thats great. Thanks for your replies. Think I will go with dealer service for sake of £200.

Will get the RMS done as well. 2 yr warrantly on that alone would be worth a lot...

[&o]I would double check that RMS warranty by an OPC. Having read the threads forever & a day I seem to recall the warranty on an RMS isn't 2 years at all!!
 
Repairs you pay for are warranted for 12 months, if paid for by Posrche, then NO warranty (dont shoot the messanger)
 
£700 sounds a lot for a 48000 service. Most Independents seem to charge under £300.

IMHO when the car gets to 5-6 years old (and well out of warranty) the value of a FPSH gets somewhat diluted. People buying these cars tend to be true enthusiasts, and are happy if it has been serviced by a good specialist. As far as I am concerned it is the quality of the work (and parts used) that is important, and I am sure that most independents are just as good as OPC's in that department.
 
I'd be happy to be proved wrong but I doubt you'll get a 48k 996 service for £300 all in. The oil alone was £100, allbeit at Porsche prices.
 
You are right - my chap is ultra-cheap at £250

That's using Magnatec - extra for Mobil 1, but I always take my own oil.

My car had a 48k service shortly before I bought it, so (apart from changing oil and filter at 54k) the only service I have had was at 60k. The menu price was £120, and I have attached the invoice to this post. However, I have to say that Tony Wright is a close personal friend, so included the labour to change the pads, do my OBC retrofit etc, and some of the parts are at cost. Even so, the menu price for the 12000 service is what the 'ordinary' customer would pay. I don't want this to sound too much like an advert as I don't think it is strictly "netiquette" to plug a friend's business on such a forum.
