Porsche Connect App/Services Question for 2017 car

Hi all, I picked up a 991.2 Targa 4 GTS a few weeks ago and am just wondering if there is any value in the Porsche Connect app for cars of this age? My dealer tells me that in order to add the car to the app I need to pay a vodafone subscription of £279 per year and that if you are using carplay it's basically a waste of money. I have no reason to doubt the dealer's advice but jsut want to double check what others are doing and whether its possible to simply source your own SIM plan at a fraction of the price to achieve the same end.

I'm not bothered about traffic and monitoring my fuel levels from the app but it would be nice to be able to update the software/maps if this is achieved by the mobile connection and/or app.

thanks

there are two different packages. one you pay Porsche for that gives you access to over the air map updates, traffic and weather - this is a complete waste of money as you can download the maps off the internet and pop them on a SD card and install them no problem. You also have to buy a data sim just to get this...
The other, which I think is more useful is via Vodafone. this you dont need a sim for as it uses the cars built in sim.
this gives you options such as tracker and checking if your car is locked, tire pressures, milage left and where you parked it.

the tracker is rubbish as you have to carry around a big key fob... the best and cheapest version is just to go for the basic Vodafone package which give you the cars location, and if you have locked it etc. I have like and like it.

also get a wireless CarPlay adaptor - this is great and just connects your phone to CarPlay when you get in the car without cables! I have just posted. https://911uk.com/threads/wireless-carplay-adapter.125879/

Thanks a lot for the reply and info. Is the basic vodafone package the one that costs £279 a year or is that the Porsche Connect official service? It certainly isn't very clear from the app itself or the info shared by dealers but maybe it simply doesn't matter as Carplay is so good now.

Re the wireless carplay adapter I think I have the very same one already. Is it the Sennheyer or something like that? I took a chance on one that was well reviewed on YouTube and only cost about £40 and so far it has worked flawlessly. It connects every time and very quickly. On longer journeys I just plug the phone into the glovebox USB to charge. I really don't notice any lag at all and would say it performs identically to the wired connection. My only slight concern was whether I'm now sharing all my data with China but nothing ventured nothing gained !

Hi, I recently got myself a my18 gts.

My car came with a tracker as well and just contemplating if I should get the connected services.

I got a 7 day trial - and here are my thought

Pricing AFIK you have 3 options remote just to see car data in the phone app, safety in case of a crash or airbag deployment and security if you also have a tracker fitted they will call you if your car is moved without consent (although you can set movement alters just via remote subscriptions)

I used just the remote services for now, and would say it’s ok but not required… you can see the car location on the map and status but you can’t don anything about it. I used to have Mercedes Me and you cold remotely close windows etc

I attached some screenshots what the app can do and the costs

For 105 per year I might just roll with the remote services but not convinced about the rest - my iPhone has collision detection and as I can already see the car on the map and can set geofence alarm it’s good enough

I got the 7 day trial when I went to activate and transfer the tracker at the main dealer - the process costs 150 so it’s not a great deal but needed to be done in my case
