Hi All

I purchased my 2010 Gen 2 Cayman from OPC Reading and initially was quite pleased with the service that was provided. More recently, the experience has not been so good. My car is due for MOT next week and warranty renewal in early October this year. I was wondering what the experience of other R19 members have of Reading and would appreciate any views that you might have?

Part of me wants to keep a full Porsche service history, on the other hand, there are very good independents locally. The warranty is key to having peace of mind, but quite expensive.

Any comments would be greatly appreciated in order that I am able to make a more informed decision for the future.

Thank you

Tony

Hi Tony, I purchased my Gen 2 911 from Gildford OPC, but have had it serviced etc. over the past two years at Reading, and have been very impressed with their service and helpful advice. Not had any problems at all with them, but you do not seem to have been so fortunate.

As regards warranty, mine will be due for renewal in March 16 and will be renewed via the OPC. May not be cheap, but the piece of mind with what could otherwise be a very expensive outlay in the following two years outweighs for me this potential issue/cost, but all of us will have different views on this. There are independent policies that are cheaper (have not looked into them), and could be an alternaive for you if you feel the Porsche warranty route is not for you. Keeping the full Porsche service history is also important for me and had the two years service recently. As you purchased yours in 2010 assume you will have at least one service and will be aware the standard service price advertised does not cover all the work/checks Porsche recommends. A bit like buying a new car with the optional extras; the additional costs accumulate very quickly!!

Selling the car at a later date is also a consideration when making decisions like these. If you had the option of buying one with full Porsche service history and warranty vs one that had neither what would you buy? Is it an important factor or not? Feels very much on how you feel it might or might not impact on the value of the car at a later date and ease of sale. Again, just something to consider.

Not sure this helps but ..........

Phil

Hi Tony
Reading OPC look after my GT2 and the service has been excellent. I've used them for servicing and MOTs. Staff really helpful and prices for servicing have been on a par with some independents.

I have ad hoc work done at Reading, always very good, no issues at all. I know someone who has their Cayman(s) serviced there for years and says they are good, but a couple of times he needed to push to get things sorted. He renewed the warranty and was rewarded when there was an issue and it was all covered.

I get the sense that you need to keep their focus. They seem to look after the more newer/expensive cars/owners slightly better, although I know some who were royally miffed with GT3 issues.

Comes down own to the people you get to know.
