Porsche Assistance

Since using this service in early August following a puncture and transportation to a tyre company for replacement, I have been involved in protracted claims and counter-claims with the RAC following damage to the driver's seat by the driver of the breakdown recovery vehicle, not an RAC employee but a local sub-contractor.

After countless telephone calls, emails, inspection of the damage, discussions with the tyre company and valeter who verified the damage, the RAC Customer Services finally made a decision after 10 weeks that the driver had used a protective seat cover but failed to explain how the interior became dirty and the light grey leather seat damaged.

Under the Porsche complaints procedure, contact was made with Porsche Leeds who undertook to investigate. After discussions with Porsche, JCT Head Office contacted me to say that as their company considered I was a valued customer, they would replace the seat cover at their expense.

It is a pity that photographs will have to be taken of both interior and exterior before the RAC recovery service is used again and would advise members to make a note of my recent stressful experience.

Well John if you haven't had the seat done yet stand by for the next batch of grief as the colour doesn't match, the leather grain doesn't match, they scratch the door while they have it, the carpet gets black greasy marks on it, it gets taken to the fish shop at dinner time by a spotty faced 16 yr old apprentice who gives it a right good caning and they do a 290 point check on it and tell you it needs about £10k spending on it none of which is covered by warranty!![:D]

Best regards,

Cynical Chris

That was only half the story on Black Monday - the VW Golf was serviced at York same day, we then found scratches on the bonnet and an alloy wheel damaged - thought we had broken a dozen mirrors!

A quick phone call soon rectified that - offered straight away to repair any damage plus petrol costs back to York so the same company is in my good books at the moment.

Have a good holiday try not to upset the Aussies.

What a saga John, but then the root cause is using the car. If it wasn't driven at all, it would only need batteries periodically, RAC would get its money and everyone - except the owner - would be happy.

A cautionary tale indeed.[:(]

I have a much worse tale to tell!

Many years ago I parked, nose in, rather too close to the top of a cliff. When I came to reverse back (the vehicle was a front wheel drive Saab), I could not as the front wheels were in loose gravel and on a slope.

I rang the RAC and they sent a local sub contractor who put a tow rope around the rear axle (yes really) and tried to pull the car backward away from the edge of the cliff. Of course the handbrake was still on (otherwise my car would have trundled over the cliff on the slight slope.) When the subcontractor pulled my car back, with the handbrake still on, he bent the rear axle! Whereupon I got cross and told him that he had attempted to pull my car with the handbrake on. Having released the tow rope, he then proceeded to release the handbrake, forgetting to chock the front wheels.

We then watched my precious Saab roll over the cliff!

Beware RAC subcontractors!

ps this story is true!

Sorry to hear about your problem John and hope that the issue will be resolved to your satisfaction.

When I renewed my Porsche Extended Warranty/Porsche Assistance last month, the service rep told me that the RAC had lost the contract (owing to a number of complaints about the service) which was now being placed with the AA. However, the documentation I received still indicated that assistance was being provided by the RAC.

Can anyone advise us of the current situation?

Jeff

Can't believe it John. Don't tell me in this day and age that somebody has actually done their job correctly!
