Porsche 992 Turbo S

The project is now posted in Technical Articles in the Members Only section of 992 Register. [:)]

It’s disappointing that Porsche don't fit mesh grilles to the front and rear air intakes of the 992, my 992 GT3 has them covering all the apertures including the rear as described in this thread although in the GT3 the rear intakes located in the same area as shown in the photo posted earlier, are for engine cooling as there are of course no turbo chargers.

As some of you already know, I had some front grilles fitted to my Turbo S by Zunsport. Full disclosure, mine was the template for this version so did not pay for them. Meant two trips to Cannock though...

Do they interfere with the active aero on the TTS? I assume not if you have had them fitted.

What surprises me is that don't Porsche see this as a potential issue? Those cars with active fins like the regular Carrera models and Turbo/Turbo S have less risk I suppose of a stone/rock puncturing the radiator/intercooler. However, the Carrera with the Sport Design kit like the 992 GTS, then there are big gaping holes which means much higher risk of stone damage. In contrast, the 991.2 GT3 which has a similar designed front bumper as the 992 GTS came with mesh grilles providing greater protection.

No, they have a clip that keeps the grilles away from the vanes.

The central rad on mine was very exposed which is why I wanted some protection.

The rad does in fact have some protection as standard from the factory, but limited to a very light plastic mesh fitted directly in front. This is unlikely to save the unit in the event of a decent sized stone getting through.

Do we know anyone who has had a stone go through which has caused significant damage? If so, what is Porsche's stance on this? Do they repair/replace under warranty or are you left on your own?

Hi All
Regarding the front protective grills from Zunsport for the 992 Turbo S.
If your car has ACC, parking camera and night vision camera installed then the centre grill will not fit. Outer grills are no problem.

They may well be looking for a template car for this version.

Having had a discussion with a technical guy at Zunsport I was told that the fixing for the grill is right where the night vision camera is located.

Having waited almost 15 months for a Turbo S allocation, at long last my dealer has confirmed a build slot for September. I had originally been told the order would take about a year so it has been delayed somewhat but it is nice to have the confirmation. I am not sure what impact the latest rumours about significant delays might have. I had assumed any allocation would be pushed back even further, so fingers crossed that doesn't happen. After a 15 month wait I have had plenty of time in the configurator, the latest code is PP7TQ7G4 if anyone is interested. Looking forward to meeting some other Turbo S owners!

Lovely high spec car, Murray - congratulations. Should look stunning in Shark Blue (although, of course, everyone knows Guards Red is the fastest!)

I see you've managed to secure the Sports Design Package too. This has been on and off of the configurator several times in recent months, but well worth it. It makes the car very special IMO.

Some vehicles seem to be coming through with just manual steering and seat adjustment ATM, due to the microchip shortages. Fingers crossed yours isn't one of them.

Well worth the wait - it'll blow your socks off! :ROFLMAO: [;)]

Thanks Clive. Yes the SD Pack is available again. I think it was seeing in pictures of your car that inspired me to have it in the first place, because I wasn't sure, then it disappeared and now its back. Just hoping it stays that way!

Who knows what will happen with the electronic adjustable steering column. I never had one before the 992 C4S and don't really use for adjustment but it makes getting in and out a little easier when it moves on turning the ignition on or off. Not a huge problem either way, though.

I just posted fitment the front bumper mesh grills project with illustrations in the 992 Technical Section (Members Only) here, which hopefully may be helpful to anyone contemplating a similar DIY job. [;)]
