Hi Guys ,could some one please give me an informed idea on the actual current market values of 964 RS, I am looking to buy one Low milage in exc. cond. have seen.
Lhd - with about 33000 mi - completly original asking £45000
Lhd - with about 30000 mi - repainted and recarpeted asking £48000
is that about right or are they pricy ?? Does anyone have an opinion on the low milage cars in Japan ? Are they usually good or otherwise? Is it best to go to Germany and source one ? Whats the best way to buy low milage eg 20000 mi mint cond ?

It surprising in some ways, just how many people seem to be looking to buy such a car --- and it's this which is driving prices.

The current balloon in prices could of course burst --- and price is not, in my view, the prime factor in any choice.

Why not give yourself time to look at as many cars as possible, which will take some time and also give you an idea of where fair value rests.

It will also help you to decide what is most important to you --- because you may end up having to make fairly swift choices when you sense the right time arrives.

What made me finally leap for my RHD RS ? Ridiculously, it's colour. I have never done that before.

Personally I would not buy on mileage but condition.

I'd rather have a fully maintained and top conditioned 60,000 miler than a low miler not having the same ongoing and recent maintenance.

Far too many people put emphasis on 'mileage' in buying any sort of porker I believe.

Just my 2p....

Mark,

Unless you can have the car inspected by somone you trust, I would avoid buying cars unseen. It is not usual practice in Japan to get a PPI and I am not certain whether the dealer will allow an inspection. Also you will be hit by 17.5%VAT and 10% import duty unless tax was already paid in EU before the car went to Japan. Naito appear to have nice cars but they are expensive as they know the pricing of the European market (they import from H&S inGermany - when I asked about a car a few years back and asked if they sourced the car from H&S they said "who the hell are you" ! so I personally would be a little wary buying from them). I would speak to Thomas at H&S or Paul at GT Classics as you are more likely to be able to see the car and get a PPI.

Thanks, PPI = Porsche Pre Purchase Inspection ? Are the prices I've been quoted Right or expensive ?

It's the same the world over.......it will never be any different I'm afraid.

It's the only true and documented way of knowing the cars life/history/useage.

It's the whole car that suffers from excessive mileage...right down to your seat belts and your cusions on the seats to your foo foo valve and your barrel flanges.

Even the stresses and starins on the shell.....the whole damn lot

and leaving them in the garage never being used is the best thing for mechanicals and moving parts Lee?[;)]

Just trying to add some rational to you statement Jason.

That's life. [8|]

You saying I'm irational[;)]

I agree with you Lee and if I had your car it would certainly be difficult to open that door and take it out....I meant generally I see people buying 40,000 miler 993's etc and paying quite a premium them thinking its better than an 80,000 miler but not neccessaily realising that a 40,000 miler may be just at the point of needing a lot of parts replacing and the 80,000 miler may have just had them all replaced! Of course it works both ways.

For once I actually agree with Mr Firman on this....buy on condition....and have a PPI done

It's a bit like when I was trying to sell my 996TT...It had no Sat Nav (which is crap on that year anyhow) The fact that it was absolutely mint, low miles in the most popular colour didn't mean diddly....People would walk away just because of the lack of Sat Nav. And it was priced according to spec.

Most of them I'm sure would have bought a shed of a car just because they were blinkered by that stupid screen.[]
