9 products do the end pieces but for a conversion which I would highly recommend.

This allows you to use rubber hoses and a little cooler radiator such as a mocal 12 row. I went down this road after a 3rd broken cooler pipe emptied my gearbox at speed and did a lot of damage. The boxes are strong and it survived the first 2 broken pipes. The 3rd time, was not a charm! I should not need to worry about a repeat now with my freshly rebuilt gearbox!

Also I think the weight and movement of the original finned cooler pipe causes the ends to wear and it is very common for them to leak even with new o-rings, especially the lower down one. This will not occur with a rubber pipe/cooler set-up and indeed mine is still leak free a couple of years down the road.

Also has the added benefit of allowing you to remove and refit the OS driveshaft without the f'king cooler loop doing your head in!!

Stuart

Thanks Stuart - already seen that and the kit from Augment Automotive.

I'd like to keep it as original as possible and also save a few pennies, if it only costs £50 or so to get a new end piece made then I'm taking that route.

I've already got some project creep on the current work so trying to rein in the costs :ROFLMAO:

Fair enough, I know that feeling with my engine build!!

For what it's worth I paid £90 for that kit, £60 for the little rad and about £30 on hoses and fittings. The kit is £80 overpriced at £90 tho.........

Well how things Change

I’ve started a on the side business thats going better than expected and I just don’t have the time or passion to continue

ive spent 50K+ the car is mint inside with every switch, carpet and seal replaced and 2K on rebuilding seats

mechanically perfect with Capricorn rebuilt and blueprinted engine new steering rack, AFM and very pipe replaced with original parts - and KW suspension

body is sound but needs cosmetic paint

If anyone want to complete it and do a proper paint job I would happily sell the car for very reasonable money as long as it goes to an enthusiast not going to advertise it but it’s here if anyone’s interested

Ken, you will regret it! Though having just re-read the entire thread, I guess you enjoyed the process as much (maybe more) than the finished article.

I am very tempted to ask how much, however I fear it would be a car I was too precious with to fully enjoy driving - certainly it would need shutting away all winter!

If Ken wanted to sell it he needs his head looked at, he needs to have some pleasure now by using it, epic build, they were not as good as that when new, it will be interesting to see what it is valued at, which obviously is a must for insurance purposes, you also need a salvage rights policy Ken should anything happen to the car, God Forbid.
Just leave this here! :)

Thats the problem I enjoyed the build, don’t have the time to drive it maybe 1 mile up the road and back every other weekend.

i Now drive 2 hours to work and then 2 hours home 3or4 days a week last thing I want to do on the weekend is drive [:)]

Would be such a shame to sell it though after all the blood, sweat and tears involved (forgetting about the monetary value).

My 944 used to be my daily driver for my job as an IT Consultant, many hours driving up and down the country. Perhaps it is my current job but the world has changed quite a bit, most of the work I do now is remote and from home with very very rarely having to travel anywhere.

I really do miss those long drives in the 944 though, I put around 80k miles on this car and enjoyed every mile of it (even when it broke down on the M25 in rush hour).

I bought a 996 to drive for a Porsche fix whilst working on the 944 but I barely drive that having done a lot less than 1k miles in the last year or so, I could never part with it now though as I doubt I'd ever find one in as good condition with such a rare colour.

car drives fantastically but I have vibration through the steering between 67 and 71 mph

cornering at this speed the vibration disappears- any ideas?

Forgot to say this is probably flat spotted tyres if the car has been sitting for a while usually a spirited drive will bring them back to round unless it has been sat in the same spot for a really long time.

Also where are you located (roughly) in the country - hopefully too far for me to have a look at the car!

I’m in stratford upon Avon

you maybe right as the vibration seems much less noticeable now

Not too far from me [:D] I'm west of Worcester - lovely though your car is, I think one black 944 Turbo is enough :ROFLMAO:

So finally getting ready to start the build again but first the garage needs sorting

I’ve got some of the photos back so if you want the full build it’s on Tipec photos from page 10 onwards

Love the SAAB. Is that a 900 Turbo?

Trusty 9-5 long gone, so pointed out to Mrs.W that there's room for a SAAB in front of the 944, but sadly not permitted...
