Porsche 911SC engine rebuild

Hello Members,
Im a New Member to the Porsche Club UK and its the first time posting to the forum. Hopefully I'm posting my issue in correct place.
After having the Porsche 911SC 1979 for over a year now and i still have not completed any engine or bodywork. I still have no time to do any work on the car. I bought the car as a dry stored garage find to recommission it in my spare time, and it’s not been started for over 10 years. I am more than capable of rebuilding the engine myself as a time served mechanic but with no time on my hands, i was thinking of taking the car somewhere to get it stripped and sorted as i’d like to use it next summer, and the car has been off the road long enough already and deserves to be driven.
Could any member recommend any specialist Porsche garages in the Nottingham, Derby area the club uses for me to get a quote on the rebuild. Any help or advice greatly received and i know it will not be cheap. I was going to try Zentrum first.?
Cheers Gary

Hi Gary,

Great to hear you are saving a survivor car.

Hartech in Bolton have a good reputation for engine rebuilds. I haven't used them myself though.

Worth checking out.

Hello and welcome to this forum.
Firstly as a builder of 4 air cooled engines over many years I would ask:
Does it need a rebuild? Comp test etc first would be my starting point. Any poor numbers and away you go!

As a rule of thumb, 2 weeks to strip and clean and measure everything, not tricky except for the cam shaft flat nuts which will need a special tool to remove nuts etc.

2 weeks to re-clean and prep the parts and re-assembly, so about 80 man hours labour and about £800 in parts if no damage inside.

Secondly, ask your region officer for where you live for contact details of specialists in your area for the engine work.
There are many who can do this simple rebuild, I can only vouch for Greatworth Classics near Silverstone. Talk to Angus there.

It will be worth travelling a bit to use the shop you have confidence in.

Hope it all goes well.
