Porsche 356b Brake Upgrade

Hi, are the CSP kits a good alternative or are there better options?

Stick with the original braking system.
Just make sure everything is as it should be, fitting discs will not make it any better.
Check that the brake cylinders on the front axle have been correctly installed as leading shoe not trailing shoe.
Many inexperienced people have the brake cylinders wrongly installed. Porsche's have always had exceptional brakes.

David, you do not say why you need "better" brakes for your car. As the 2 Johns say the existing drum brakes are perfectly suitable for normal use and will last a long time with high mileage usually before the shoes need to be changed.
What do you plan to use the car for and what annual mileage do you expect to drive?
 

When I was searching for a car I declined a 356B. I spoke to a well respected dealer in 356's.
I explained why I had rejected the B because of the Braking system and I wanted the C for it's disc brakes.

His response:-

The 356B is the last of the Drum brake models and would have been refined/tuned over many years to be at the peak of Drum break performance.

The 356C disc system was new and as such you would be investing in a brake system that was in its infancy.

Dear all, many thanks for your replies. Based on your feedback, I shall trust in Porsches design and get some miles in before making any decisions with the brakes.
I guess I have been spoilt by the efficiency of the modern motor car as my last classic car, was over 25 years ago- a Renault 5 Turbo 2.
As I have only just purchased the car, I am going to get her thoroughly inspected and ready for infrequent/light road use. That's means she probably won't be available until next summer, so that gives me plenty of time to understand her foibles and upgrade/repair/replace as required.
As I live in Cornwall, I guess that I will be contacting Roger Bray in Exeter numerous times.
Exciting times ahead.
Whilst here in France, I spotted this T6 beauty in Branne.

Hi, I replaced my drum brakes on my Super 90 for CSP crossed drilled discs and have had good service. The reason for changing them was that I wanted consistency of straight line braking. I seemed to be always adjusting the shoes on the front to achieved straight line braking. I have had these discs on the car for 2 years and it's comforting to know that if I hit the brakes the car goes straight. Never had that with the drums.
