Poole Quay Picture Thread

For a change I had my camera with me so could walk around and take plenty of pictures of the cars. I took many shots but these are my favourites. I hope you enjoy them.

More to come later. The owners of the white 911 and that wonderful 356 are with their cars in the photos.
Thanks for viewing.

Great stuff Neil. The DDK boys are after some pics - would you be so kind as to post your air-cooled stuff on there? There's a Poole Quay thread already running. When I get to a proper computer I'll post the link to my vid of the 911R rep running "caps off..."

The 911R replica at full noise, as the RAF types used to say...

[:D] That is a properly rude exhaust. Love it. I was about 200 yards away at the time and it sounded loud enough from where I was standing. Chris I tried to register on DDK last night but no joy. I cross posted on PH though so I guess anyone over on DDK could see the thread on PH. If anyone wants bigger images just contact me, these are all developed from DNG files in Photoshop.

Without further ado here is a load more images:

More great pictures Neil.

If you don't mind e/mailing the air-cooled ones to me, I'll post them on DDK. Someone is particularly keen to see one of the blue ST replica and 991 together and you've come up with the goods!
You have a PM with my e/mail address.

Thanks,
Chris

Easiest way Chris is if you hit quote on my posts and just copy the image links, then paste them into your posts on DDK. Just look out for the formatting as this forum and PH use odd formatting commands. Usually its something like
.

I will have a look for an image of the blue 911 with the 991. I was sure I took at least one but couldn't see earlier.

I will post more throughout the week but at this rate I will end up posting almost every shot I took [:D].

Thanks for the comments guys.

BTW I didn't mention it before but these were all taken with a German camera which is somewhat fitting.

Yes Leica M8, the thing is built like a tank and addictive to use but requires a lot of practice/experience and understanding of the foibles of a rangefinder to master. Just makes one love it more. Sounds like a certain model of classic German car [:D]

Quality kit!! A descendant of the 1c and 111c that I'm very lucky and proud to own. At 60 years old, they still work perfectly and the controls work with well oiled precision. Best constructed items I've ever owned - yes, even better than you know what...!

How dare you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I know, it's heresy to say it, but they really are incredible bits of engineering and would be appreciated by anyone who admires Porsche's engineering. I might bring one along to a club night so people can have a feel...

Neil are you a profesional? youre pics are most definitely.

Thanks Paul for your kind words. I am only a keen enthusiast that got back into photography a couple of years ago, but the more I do it the better I get and the more keen I become to get those shots. Many moons ago I did want to become a pro news photographer. My mum worked at the Chronicle and Echo in Northampton and they accepted me for work experience. I had a page 3 news item and an editorial shoot published in the paper which was hugely exciting for us (My mum still has the paper cuttings). Back then my weapon of choice was a Nikon FM and nifty 50 as it was all I could afford and I loved the thing in a way which isn't really healthy. Unfortunately this was the end of the 80's very early 90's and the business was changing rapidly in a way that didn't look like something to get into, all the pros I met at the time said it was getting very tough. The pay for shots in the local paper was bread line stuff once they got shot off the staff photographers. So off I went to do a degree in Physics and eventually become an engineer.

If I could chuck it in and take pictures for a decent living I would definitely do it but I guess like anything having to deliver a prescribed result would probably take the fun out of it.

Chris I will bring mine along as well. The top section on the Leica's containing the rangefinder optics is milled out of solid brass. You just don't get quality like that any more but my word they make you pay for it if buying new.

Believe me, they're not cheap to buy "pre-owned" either...

Good story though Neil. Like you, I became an engineer as second choice, but my first choice was to become a motoring journalist and I guess I am realising that dream by writing my articles for PP.

I also read physics then engineering & ended up with my engineering co-I guess I wanted something slightly "hands on"
Regrettably, my only brush with Leica is the lens in my early Casio digital camera.

Still loved your "moody" shots Neil.

Thanks

I think I will dig out another dozen or so images over the weekend. Haven't fired up Photoshop in several weeks now what with racing and everything else going on.

Looks like that nicely "careworn" 914/4 that made a grand entrance at about 18.45. Sun shining, roof stowed away, no hurry - perfect!
