Please help with Info and any advice on YA02XKJ - Basalt black 996.2 C4 Tiptronic

Hi All,

I recently bought my first Porsche (YA02XKJ) and decided to join the club. I'm already needing some info and guidance if at all possible? The history is quite vague for the last couple of years and I'd like to get in touch with the previous owners to find out what work may have been carried out. I would also be interested to know if anyone has any other info on the car.

I've also recently removed the engine and g-box to solve a g-box oil leak and diagnose a rattle in the bell housing. Now I have the engine and box split should I change the IMS / RMS? I've been bluntly told... if they're not leaking and there's no metal in the sump then don't disturb, other people say it's a must! I'm torn as to what to do right now, any advice or info on the car would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

You need to talk to the Independent Porsche specialists for the best advice as it will be based on upto date facts. The information I have covering 2011 to 2020 when I was in the Porsche trade, is that the IMS if faulty it will show up in the 35 to 60k mile range its more prone ni town/city cars that aren't regularly opened up on the road. When the 996/early 997 cars were in regular use the fault could be delayed as they were getting "daily" lubricationThe advice you have on "if its not leaking and no metal in the sump" is correct. The rider i would give is if its a high mileage c100k + then you might as well do it as your in their, the problem then is with what.... as the earlier ceramic fixes turned out not to be the best solution more often than not, again refer to the Indie specialists. The RMS is a regular issue that should be changed when in their.

Thanks so much for the useful advice Gordon, much appreciated. I forgot to mention the mileage is now 75k and there's no evidence of leaks or any other suspicious signs, the RMS looks to be in good condition so it may have already been recently changed. My intention now is to bolt it back together and enjoy it.
