Hi all
Just before Christmas I thought I would treat myself to some new wheels for my 996, I have only had the car a few months (30000 miles from new) but I really didn't gel with the Turbo Twist which were fitted as factory options.
I bought a second hand set of cups from a fellow forum member and had them refurbished at Alloy Art in Essex (who do a lot of trade stuff etc), the wheels were fitted and I found the had a noticeable vibrations at around 70mph which got progressively worse through until about 90mph, just like they were out of balance.
I had them rebalance a few times and no improvement but my new mobile chap did notice a flat spot in one wheel and the OS front tyre close to the limit, so I replaced the tyre and got a new wheel from Chris (Excel wheels, whos been a top top bloke), new wheel went on last night and....... no improvement! I am totally gutted, not only have I spent a fortune so far but I have a car that drives like a washing machine about 70mph
The wheels have no paint on the contact plates and non on the hub bores, they are the correct C2 wheels for the car and all are straight and true (although the back OS does have a slit flat spot)
I did notice today when I was driving home that the alignment seems to be out now (again not a problem that I recall before I changed the wheels) but it's there now! Basically the steering wheel seems slight off when I go in a straight line and when I hold it centre the car tracks off to the right
The only other things I have had done is having one of the rear struts replaced because of s squeaky bush!
I am now at my wits end and have no idea what else it could be, I have thrown £600 with new tyre and new OS front wheel and it has made no improvement! I cant even try changing back to the old wheels because like a fool I sold them
Any any advice would be appreciated
Thanks Tom
