Play in sunroof.

After the heavy rain, Iv found my sunroof is leaking.

It leaks from the lowest corner, which ever way round I park.

I can see the drip build up till it drops from inside the car. It builds up in the corner off the sunroof where it meets the headlining. I'm not sure if it's dripping from over or under the sunroof lip sill( the inner sill on the car body )

When I brought the car I noticed the sunroof didn't sit completely flush with the body, and I could press the corners and short sides off the sunroof in. Which would then pop back up straight away. So I tryed swapping over the sunroof with my other 944 2 try and trouble shoot the issue. Trying differnt combinations off sills e.c.t

Neither really worked, but it was slightly better.

Now I have noticed some cabin noise while driving, faster you go the louder the noise. If i push/ put pressure on the back off the sunroof from inside the car while driving the noise increasse, so I'm thinking the sunroof isn't completely tight.

Also the sunroof switch doesn't stop at a closed limit. It can go from open 2 closed 2 retracted in one move, regardless off the ignition position, so while on the move I can retract the lifting arms, which is wrong.

So when I close the roof I do it in small adjusement.

One issue, set the limit switch right?

Now Iv allso noticed play in the lifting arms when the sunroof is completely erected. And when the sunroof is removed and the lifting arms fully extended, ( have 2 press the micro switch in 2 allow this )

So is this normal 4 there 2 be some play in the lifting arms? I took it all apart and everything is there, all 5 screws and the washer b4 the cog. The lifting arms theet looked ok and so did the cogs. I replaced the cogs with new ones anyway. There still play. I'm wondering if it's this play that's not allowing the right amount off pressure when the sunroof is closed.

The plastic trays which the lifting arms slid into seem of, they have split a little but don't look worn where the pin sits. Iv tryed adjusting these up and down 2 create less play when the arms are shut. But no joy.

Can you please check your sunroof 4 play and let me no if this is normal or likely 2 be the cause off the leak/ wind noise.

Just 2 add that the drips seem 2 be dripping from the sunroof lining. So water is getting though between the sills.

Dose this mean new sills? Or is it just the shear volume off rain?

The drain holes are clear.

Iv adjusted the cam gear at the sunroof motor, all the limit switches are working now and I now have full operation at ingition poistion 1 and 2.

Not sure if it's still leaking yet.

Just seen this thread - sorry, should have responded before.

When you say "play in the lifting arms", what do you mean? Play in which direction? If the sunroof on my S2 is up, the rear of it seems quite "loose" as the pegs on the side of the lifting arms are narrower than the tracks they run in on the sunroof, therefore creating play. (The pegs aren't round in cross-section even when new; I replaced the lifting arms on mine about 2 years ago as I thought they were worn - they weren't, the new ones were the same shape as the old ones!)

When the sunroof is down, the movement of the arms means the pegs have rotated, and they are in a different bit of the track, and the sunroof is held tightly. I haven't checked it, but I'm pretty confident there is no play when the roof is all the way closed.

Thanks, yes there play when up. But also when down if u push from outside downwards. On the corners theres some and if u press up from inside the car there's some also.

I do this with the door open standing from outside.

I got a leak, which I'm sure is coming between the 2 sills, the drain holes ate clear, I think the join off the too sills are drawing the water in during heavy rain.
