Pirelli to Michelin - Load Rating

I’ve had my 991.2 GTS for around 2.5 years now. It’s currently sitting on Pirelli P-Zero tyres all around, which I’m guessing were put on by the supplying OPC, they were all brand new and I’ve done circa 10K miles since I purchase. There’s still tons of grip left on all the tyres (I don’t do track days or light up the rear).

I can’t say I rate the Pirelli’s. My plan was always to move to Michelin when the time arose. Today, I found a nail in my rear offside tyre, and it’s too close to the sidewall to repair, so I began my search for some new boots, and I am confused dot com.

My GTS isn’t for the purest, it’s not got centre locks, so I don’t know if that changes my tyre sizes but I’m looking for:

245/35ZR20 91Y
305/30ZR20 103Y

When I look for Michelin’s I can only find 245/35R20 95Y XL N0 for the fronts - is this what everyone else fits?

Also, can anyone recommend a decent tyre fitter or who they use for tyres in the Cheshire area please?

Try your OPC and ask them to match the Black Circles price. You should also get 10% off using your PCGB discount.

Are they? OPC Guildford did a nationwide search for me just a month ago and this size was nowhere to be found. I talked to Michelin UK who admitted that all sizes of 4 S tyres are hard to come by now as production in France moves to 5S

It is an utterly farcical situation that a company the size and stature of Michelin have gotten themselves in such an unholy mess, customers queueing up for tyres that they seem incapable of producing!

Try getting a set of 5 S's for your 991……………..

There are no N rated Michelins for your rears in the country. Being produced in October, Reason I know is my son's 991.2 Targa GTS is stuck in the OPC needing a rear tyre.

How frustrating must that be for him. Let's hope the October production date means October 2026 and not October 2027!

At least I needed a full set to replace worn out Pirelli's so wasn't inconvenienced that much by their unavailability.

Whatever the perceived advantages of the French Mirage circles why would any Porsche owner subject themselves to this uncertainty , inconvenience and misery. Non-racers should simply boycott Michelin products, they seem to care little for us so why should we support them?

Hi Dan, sorry for the delay replying.

No they’re not, but they are happy to fit tyres you provide. I wanted to try and save some money, so sourcing tyres myself was the best option, but I also wanted a company to fit them that was reputable so I opted for this solution.

As above, there are no N rated Michelin’s available at present anywhere in the UK.

I opted to just fit none N rated Michelin PS4’s pto the rear, as my 991.2 GTS is already in Warranty. I just keep bolting an extra year on just before the current year ends, negating any need for the 111 check.

It’s only an issue not having none N rated tyres if you want to add warranty when there isn’t already a policy in place.

From a POC at my OPC:

If you are extending the warranty before it runs out, then the tyres would not pose an issue. The only time they would be an issue is if you let the warranty run out and then want to re-apply for a warranty and therefore do a 111pt check. The tyres would then be a failure.

Can I ask what they charged/are charging you? They are 15 mins from me and I know Pete will look after anyone that goes to him. Like you, I'd rather go to someone who's going to look after my alloys. I take it they have a no-touch tyre fitting machine?

May be if you are mixing radial and cross play

Warranty is not voided but it won't pass the 111 point check needed for a new warranty

Interesting to note that if you’re renewing your Extended Warranty, apparently you don’t have to adhere to N-rated tyres because the 111-point check isn’t carried out. Figure that one out!

The only difference is the tyres don’t have N0 or N1 stamped on them, I haven’t deviated from the size, width or speed ratings:

I haven’t deviated away from what is recommended (on the label inside the drivers door edge) so I don’t believe I need to inform my insurer. The tyres specs fitted are what Porsche recommends

I can’t comment on the equipment but they test drove and cleaned the wheels after swapping the tyres, it was £214 to fit the 4 new Michelin tyres.

Pricey yes compared to other fitters, but you get what you pay for. Buying the tyres myself online saved me some money - so it still all worked out cheaper
