The car ran great, used a little oil (it does have a small seal leak) and averaged just over 30mpg, which I was pretty happy with. It wasn't too uncomfortable with the heater cmoing on and off on it's own until driving back on Friday afternoon. Only a couple of niggles being that the gaitor got quite warm (which I understand isn't too unusual) and the sterring felt a bit loose at high speeds on the motorway - is this just down to tracking or needing the bushes replacing?

When was the last time it had a full 4 wheel geometry alignment - camber, caster and toe angle? These cars are sensitive to alignment and that should be your first point of call

The "hot gearstick" thing was discussed recently. Mine was cured when I had the new exhaust fitted.

The UJs on the steering column can wear, it's picked up on an MOT. As has been mentioned already, the car is very sensitive to geometery, and even tyre pressures.
 
I've noticed that the rack on my car has a bit of play. I guess the rack and pinion wears over time as well.
 
LOL cracking pics. Funnily enough I was at the lakes recently and took a near identical picture at the same car park! Kirkstone pass I think. I will post it later tonight after work.
 
You drove to the lake district and averaged over 30mpg! There should be a law against that[;)]

That absolutely was at Kirkstone Pass - our cars must have been parked in the exact same spot! I'm glad it wasn't snowing though, I drove up the back road from Ambleside (called 'The Struggle'!) which frankly I would be scared to walk on in those conditions! Once I cleared some traffic a bit further north from Kirkstone it was a great spot for a bit of a hoon, I'm appreciating the handling more and more.

I checked the tyres before I left (all four were different!), and the last time the tracking was done was in '08, so I guess it might be due to be done again - I was holding off in case there were other things (like bushes) that I should have done first, rather than have the tracking done twice. Any thoughts?
