Picked up my new car but there was a dent in it

Hi all, just wondering if anyone could help me out / put my mind at ease.
picked up my new car on Saturday which was a factory order … unfortunately I spotted a dent on one of the hips.
the Porsche dealer said that they would get it back and remove the dent.

will I be able to reject the car if the fix is not satisfactory.

just need some advice on what to do etc.

dealers quality control is very poor, but you won't notice the dent if done by the top guys in that field.

should end up a good result one hopes.

 
It’s very small and I just such a shame I spotted it to be fair .. really took the edge off the day… that’s what I’m hopeful for..

 
Had lots of dents like that (and a lot worse) done over the years. It will disappear like magic.

 
Will it genuinely ?

I hope so that would be amazing .. should I be asking for a free service or anything?

or just put it down to one of those things and at least it’s sorted?

 
I had a similar experience with a new 718 Cayman S which was handed over with deep scratches on the underside of the door sill. If it hadn't been for friends taking a video of me driving past on handover day at the dealership, it would have been my word against theirs. When I produced the video evidence, they accepted the damage was present at handover.

The damage was subsequently repaired perfectly. A personal apology followed from the Dealer Principal, with a goodwill package of benefits including a free oil change service, and a forthcoming Porsche Club tour overnight stay paid for by the dealership.

As mentioned. PDR guys are top notch and you wont be able to tell it was there. I'd be asking for something for the inconvenience though. If they ask what you want, ask THEM what they're prepared to offer.

A friend of mine who worked in new car sales (not Porsche), once told me that minor dents and scratches happen all the time whilst a new vehicle is in transit/storage. These imperfections should all be picked up at the dealership during a PDI, and corrected before a customer ever sees the car.

If this dent was spotted, and corrected before handover, you would probably never have known it was ever there.

This photo shows the scratches on the underside of the driver's side door still on my new 718 Cayman S. It's thought the damage was caused by a ratchet strap buckle used to secure the car when in transit.

The damage was only apparent when viewing from the side and standing a few metres away from the car. At the handover no one noticed the damage, it only became apparent after I had returned home and washed the car for the first time. Had it not been for the video evidence taken at the handover I would have had a struggle convincing the dealership that the damage was present before I took delivery.

The goodwill package offered by the dealership was given in writing without prejudice. However trust was broken. I never bought another car from that particular dealership.

I would recommend you seek a goodwill offer from the dealership. Ask high, and you will get a good deal. Complimentary service visits, eg oil and filter changes, brake fluid change, geometry check and set, are all worth asking for. Good luck.

Seems there is a bit of a trend here.... When I picked mine up OPC made an impressive presentation with a big reveal and my name on a presentation board by the car etc. Really impressed and I was excited to see my new car,only when I did a close inspection to find a piece of trim hanging off by the nearside door mirror!. Trim had a broken part on it but it seemed so obvious yet had not been picked up. Sales guy and workshop manager very embarrassed but so they should be, even although they showered me with goodwill gestures it did tarnish the whole experience.

So booked in for the dent to be removed next week.

have offered a full tank of fuel and £250.00 to spend at the Porsche online shop.

im happy with that and think thats fair

I just hope it’s true what a few of you have said about how the repair will make the dent disappear :)

 
Yeah I’m pretty happy with it… I think it’s fair and if the dent comes out completely I will be over the moon

 
Happened to my car a 981 Spyder 2016 collection day arrived and I traveled down south to inspect and see it safely on board a car transporter company (Carrs )I had hired to collect and take it the 450 miles back to Scotland.

The car was sitting in the showroom no cover over it and lots of tourists taking pics of it so no big reveal ,on inspection horror a dent on rear wing and scuffs on the door mirror and bodywork , how no one seen this at time of PPI , the sales guy said it will be ok and rub out...my remark how to you rub out a dent. Got no immediate satisfaction from Dealership

Fast forward escalated to Reading being involved as dealership could not undertake job to my satisfaction after two attempts .End result car was inspected by my son who live 50 miles from Reading they did a perfect job as he had seen original marks so happy to sign it off and except it . You could not see any repairs 100%

Car was delivered back FOC and PPF and Gteck treated ,and the cost of cancelled hire charge and my train ticket refunded so a result I would say .accidents do happen its how they are sorted out in a professional manner that counts .

 
I had a similar dent , the PDR guy was able to get access to the inside of the panel from behind the rear light unit (on a 981s). I'm pretty OCD and its 100% gone.

You won't be able to see it once sorted, no matter how hard you look, these guys work magic.

I once foolishly clipped the petrol pump onto a 2hr old M4 leaving a dent in a similar place, I am pretty retentive about these things but could not see anything once it was sorted...no matter what angle of light or looking I gave it.

Hoping it will soon be a distant memory & the tarnish turns back to a shine when all fixed.

 
Thanks for everyones responses - has made me feel a lot better... the car is booked in for Thursday next week and am happy with how how the Porsche dealer has sorted it :)
