So after much deliveration I bought my first 944 yesterday - 1991 S2 in Black ...

Had a great drive back (apart from traffic jams) - what a great little car ! certainly feels smaller and more nimble than my old 993 ...

Apparently last owner but one was an active club member - anyone on here know the car ?

Reg is H 4 ETS - Ad still on Pistonheads at the moment ... more pictures to come !

Mike

Welcome...from another 944 S2 new owner.

Is this the car: http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/3755037.htm

looks good.

I was very pleasently surprised with the 944 after 35 years 911 driving, at last Porsche got the weight distribution right!

looks very nice - 10 speaker option makes a big difference to the sound quality I think

have the cams / camchain / tensioner been checked recently?

Is that the Hi Fi option code thats listed ?

It believe it had the chain done with the belt within the last 3K miles, but will probably get it down to Project Nine near me to get things checked over for peace of mind ...

yes - different door cards with extra speakers in them

cam chain isn't a usual service item - and wouldn't normally be checked when the belts get changed (cam cover off, rather than belt cover off) It is well worth getting cam chain, tensioner & sprockets checked out.

..and its got a nice retro Panasonic stereo with cassette tape - anyone know if that would have been original equipment ?

Sweet looking thing, you'll miss the umph of the 993 though.

ah come on thats not fair - showing me pictures like that !!

I loved my 993 but point-to-point in the real world I doubt the S2 would be much (any ?) slower ...

Depends entirely on the two points, the road or roads that connect them, the weather / surface conditions and the drivers of the two cars. There are plenty of times on UK roads when a Fiat Panda is quicker than a 997 Turbo. But there are lots of other times when it isn't.

Welcome to the wonderful world of the S2.Car looks good.Don't let the Turbo boys turn you!!!! S2's are the best 944 by far.

Looks lovely in the "Fastest Colour" make sure that the cam chain tensioner is / has been changed, fill the sills with cavity wax, clean the crap out of the lower front wing plastic extensions and then rustproof.

Drive, polish and Enjoy !

Carrera Boy a well sorted, well driven 944 will be more than a match on the track than one of those old beatles, the 944 racer at Oulton was 4 seconds quicker than some of the 911 racercars [:D]

Yes trying to think how to best rust proof it now - sills are original (have that 'dimple' in them half way along ?) and prev owner has already wax filled them to an extent so they appear solid ...

Guy called Mark Knight PCGB member owned it previously (its on that 'league' table from 2007 rolling road figures)..

MMmmm nice and shiney, welcome you won't regret it.

Hello and welcome, car looks great, your going to love it I'm sure. Re rust proofing look at Bilt Hambers cavity wax dynax range, buy a couple of cans and squirt into sills via vents and drain holes, dont forget inside front wings too. Alternatively the Rustmaster can do it for you, at a price...
