I am having real problems with the built in hands free phone in my 997 S Cab. I can hear people fine but more often than not they cant hear me properly. It is particulalrly bad when the wipers are on. Has anyone else got a similar problem. Any solutions?
Thanks

I think it's been discused before, isn't there a mod, moving mic or something, search forum "997+phone" or similar or perhaps ring OPC

Hi n3gooner! Have a look at the "Poor quality telephone module transmission" thread which I started on 08.12.06. Porsche Swindon has replaced my mic and adjusted the software, which has improved the quality of transmission, but it's still not good. Cabin noise clearly plays a part but I personally believe there is a fundamental issue with the position of the mic, being inside a plastic box (i.e. the steering column cowling) with a couple of small vents in it. My view is that this plastic box collects everything BUT a clear voice from the driver! My car is a March '06 997S coupe with Bose and I reckon there will be an update or modification to the mic and/or the position of it on future vehicles. I am going to explore the possibility of moving the mic or enlarging the vents in the cowl, but one owner local to me has received a full refund for the phone module, being unfit for use. Porsche must have received dozens of complaints about this because similar systems in most cars (e.g. my Mercedes) set the standard we have come to expect. Which OPC are you with?

I can confirm that 987 Boxsters have the same problem... think the mic is mounted on the top of the steering column and whilst I can hear great the sound quality at the other end is abysmal.

An update: Just heard that Porsche Germany are aware of the problem and are developing a fix. No idea what it's going to be or when, but Porsche GB are as anxious as we owners to resolve these issues. My guess is that it will be Easter before we get any news.
