I use it... check shells site about it:

I used to use optimax in my 2.4S, but after reading my MFI manual & porsches recommendations not to use high octane petrol in my engine**, I'm now using standard unleaded (although I won't put supermarket stuff in my tank [:D] )

** this applies to the 2.4 MFI motors in 911's that had lower comp ratio than the 2.2's

I have to say any 'super' or optimax petrol certainly makes a difference compared to a 95 petrol in my engine, whether it's worth the extra ££ is another matter...

How is the engine running? Have you had it on a rolling road yet[;)]

I use optimax, I think it gives a smoother pick up although that could just be me wishing.

Jon, the engine is getting better every time I drive it. It's just run in and need to get it back to AJP for the Pertronix and final fettle. Can't wait, goes like a train!

wish mine would

bloody carbs i thought it might of been the petrol why it was backfiring and not ticking over right but it cant be better go and buy a carb balancer wish me luck[&:]

have you got solexes on?
May have leak around the shafts?
Failing that hows the ingnition system: dizzy coil reg leads plugs

yep they are solex's and I have had a chat with Mike . the result

remove carbs reface the bottoms to make sure they are sealing as per the Dwane Spencer book

Balance the split shaft as they may be opening dirrently (b***ly split shafts)

New gaskets back on the manifolds

screw in the idle jets and turn back 1.5 turns on each one

leave one side of the accelrator linkage off and run the car check the balance of the carb on the one side and then move over to the other set and adjust to match then reconnect the linkage and check to see if it is the same if not adjust the linkage arm until it is .

This is a good starting piont and from there I don't know other than a proper tune up but since I been learning from the man Mr Lucas It's not going to be far off from there.

but need to consider points ,plugs ,valve clearance ,heads in good order eg not carboned up (like mine) and the float levels ....

Gosh I knew none of this 9 months ago.... [:D]

all sorted and running very well but going for a rolling road and a proper tune up everything is new now well almost new plugs/leads/points/condenser/coil

just reading duanes book as it looks like i dont have the correct carbs on mine i have the 356 super 90 carbs

Good to hear all is well, can you see the number on the solexs without taking them off? I am intertested to find out what mine are.
