Ok guys and gals, this subject has come up on other forums but here we go hoping to get some difinitive answers. What engine mods do you have? what sort of power are you running(dyno result?). Am toying with the Idea of Mass air conversion (anyone else got this, I know mel has) Want best bangs for my folding stuff (actually bangs might not be best term to use) wrt maf conversion the one i'm thinking of using uses an exchange motronic, anyone else tried this route?

Not too sure about mine as was all done in Germany before I bought the car, however think its got cup pipe/hot air film/chip. Dyno'd at 288hp last year - so not a massive increase for the cost of the work IMO.
Steve at JZ was saying that a lot of the hot film conversions done in the UK are a waste of ££ as they offer very little increase for the money...

Matt

285 Dyno by AMD and then 283 Dyno by JZ Machtech, AMD Chip & remap, cat bypass, g-pipe, sports twin outlet back box, drilled airbox, K & N Airfilter...fabulous Torque 266.1 lb ft.......cheapish route to that locked up power.[:)]

A car I've just sold after an inspection at AmD made 284 bhp on the dyno at JZ Machtec. Standard other than Cup and Cat bypass with modified chip. Believed to be a Roock chip, but not 100% sure.

For what its worth I've driven 964 RS's with hot air film and didn't think much of it at all.

Cup and CAT bypass and chip is all very cheap and easy to return to standrd if desired. Also not too noisy. If you add the G-pipe and miss out the final silencer it gets very load, 105 db. Sounds great though.

My cars got 281 and was tested at JZ the same as the rest of us.

Personally I've done nothing to it and I'm unsure exactly whats been done except its got the air box mod and K&N together with the full cargraphic carlos fandango exhaust system with cats. I would suspect its had more.

Out of interest someone reckoned that system would have cost circa £5k. Would this be correct?

Des to the contrary, I was more than happy with 281, my fear was that it was less than standard.

My only dissapointment was that I didn't beat yours....Now that would have been worth a photo I'm sure...

Melv ....Wot you tawkin about? The 5 bags has already been spent...my question was, would that exhaust system have cost 5 grand?

I guess I de-cat it to give me a few more horses, Where could I go locally to get that done?

Nope, but an exhaust system, revised cat, chip, hot film and revised cams might -but if u r only getting an extra 20 brake, then maybe not!!

Geoff Everett who designed and produced the AMD hotfilm conversion sold his stake in AMD many months ago. AMD have morphed prettyy much into a VW/Audi/Seat/Skoda and Mini tuning shop. Several people have tried, unsucessfully, to get them interested in tuning Porsches of late. I still use Geoff, trading under Milford Micro-Systems (his original company). He has access to rolling roads and consults for the likes of AMD and Bob Watson. Many of the new AMD products are derived from him I believe and he waas the force behind the original AMD hot film conversion. IMHO Geoff is probably the best motronics tuner in the UK and therefore he's the only one who maps my car. He is contactable on 01865 331552

Peter

P.S. just spoke to Geoff
remap only = min. 280bhp
then
exhaust adds 10 - 12 bhp! . Cat by-pass and removes transverse silencer (which is crap!) by fitting cup pipe - this can by too noisy for track days! Do not replace final silencer it's good.

RSR, is yours the one that Ferg has bought?

I put him in touch with Andy Fearns, my tech who is now doing the Porsche side of things at AmD.

Car came out well on the inspection, from what I've heard. [:)]

About three weeks ago Andy Fearns joined AmD to head up Porsche tuning and servicing, so this statement needs qualifying. He is also friends with Geoff (old AmD) and has worked with him a lot.

Andy is ex-Autofarm (arguably the best tech they had, IMHO) and BS Motorsport (where he looked after 1000bhp GT2s for Neil Bainbridge) and really knows his Porsches, especially the 964RS.

I should point out that he is a mate, but there are plenty of others who will vouch for his integrity and talents. Ask me for his mobile if you ever need it.

He must be OK, didn't scream when I took him around Oulton Park.....[:D]

Andy has just had my old shed in for some highly technical work. He rectified some front suspension horrors that had been created by a supposedly respected Porsche specialist ! He rebuilt the LSD, carried out a 24k service, identified and fixed a potential problem on the retaining pins on the rockers ? A thorough "health check" revealed nothing else other than the items above.
The work was excellent, the communication good. The pricing was a bit of an issue with some errors that are being rectified.

Rolling road showed 281 BHP but more to come as mapping is possibly out as car does not rev out above 6000 it all gets a bit breathless.

All in all a good job carried out by a technician who knows 964RS's

Hope you get the pricing stuff resolved Allan; I'm sure it will be an innocent misunderstanding rather than a deliberate attempt to rip you off [;)]

A breathless RS above 6k is sacrilege... they should race to the 7200 limiter like a badger on heat chasing a badgeress soaked in Impulse.

Like it's owner then??? [;)]

Seeya Sunday Allan. [:D]

PS What's the bar under the front? Looks like a neon.....

It's a protector plate, Melv, dontcha know anything apart from the price of merkins?

It's meant to protect the boot floor, but in all honesty, I think Allan may just be saving those neons from stone chip damage.
