PDK clutch calibration problem

Jeff,

an electronics guy had taken a look at it here, but i think last ditch i will replace it anyway.. the Car was bought from the UK and shipped to Trinidad originally, so Right hand drive etc: so not too concerned with that part of it.. but yes i will have to work out the maths and see if it is worth it.. even broken for parts it would be worth more in the UK as it is the only 2009 C2S in Trinidad, so not really a big market for parts here either.

will keep you posted on the outcome..

After 19months of ownership (7 fun days while it was working) it seems that my 997 is finally ready to be picked up from the garage.

So far replaced TCM 2 times... DME, Gear Selector lever, PDK distance position sensor, it was by an independent garage for the first part of the saga
and more recently by Porsche Trinidad.. i had little to no feedback for the first few months but after a message to Porsche Germany with a description
of the service i was getting and the amazing first Porsche ownership experiance I have had. Things took a turn for the better, I was given regular updates
and eventually apparently i have a working 997.

Pick up the car in October when i return home.. so hopefully my opinion of the car and the brand will improve during this time.

thanks for all the comments / suggestions to date.

Wow! I admire your patience Raymond. Fingers crossed that after such a long and tortuous journey finally you’ll get to enjoy using your car.

It would be interesting to know what exactly was done to rectify the problem because here in the UK the only remedy still appears to be a replacement transmission.

Keep us posted.

Jeff,

I believe the problem with the gearbox which was "fixed" was not actually a problem.. although a new distance sensor with 2021 components can only be better than what was in there. I was unaware at the time but the "recommended" garage that it went to in the beginning was not using official PIWIS system for the car and had corrupted the new TCM module. http://t-design9.com/porsche_PDK_displacement_distance_gear_position_sensor.html

I saw a video on yourtube with a guy working on his 997, i then found him on instagram and connected and talked. his friend had a C4S with around 20K miles on it similar age to my own, it cost him around 40k USD (mainly in man hours) to rectify exactly the same problem as i had... if any one of the ECU modules goes down or has any moisture / short it can throw random error codes and shut down the car. his fix was replacing every ECU and having them coded back to his car and the problem was fixed..

moral of the story is if you have a Porsche drive it... they don't like to sit around apparently

Raymond

Hi @mondo997 what was your problem at the end? Was it TCU/ECU problem?
My shop replaced distance sensor (I had distance sensor error code) but now has trouble recalibrating, they are getting P17F0 Transmission over temp stage 1 exceeds limit value, P1871 Data record for clutch calibration is invalid ( no fault symptom available), recalibration would stop two third into the process. From your initial post, it sounds like you were getting overtemp error as well in calibration?

Just a suggestion but since this thread is nearly a year old you may have more success if you contact Raymond via a PM [hover over his username and select Send a Private Message].
