The 997 and current boxster etc Porsche tequipment site list an update due in December (see 997 postings for link) Does anyone know if this update will apply to the 996 2004 PCM 2 as the 996 section does not list it as available? If it does ...How much? If you go into the Navteq site it directs you to "contact your Porsche dealer", However if you wanted updates for the USA or Canada (an input that as the store) they would send them for $199 plus postage. This would equate to the |BMW deal of £99 for updated map discs. I suppose I would be hopeful (or naive) to think Porsche would charge the same (I suspect it will be £350-£450 ???) Bearing in mind they will only cover the PCM unit under warranty for a maximum of 2 years it would only seem fair that the Navteq discs should be sold on at cost price.

Naughty naughty!!! You must never use the words "Porsche" and "fair" in the same paragraph.[

If you have the CD mapping version, Porsche long ago abandoned it's customers. Search this forum for solution to obtaining map updates from third parties.
I assume that if you have the DVD system then your estimate of costs are spot on. The reason Navteq cannot supply directly is a contractual constraint imposed by Porsche.

This company can supply the updated map discs for about £110 , they use the modified Vauxhall Opel discs!

Rintoul, in case helpful, here's what i've learned (been looking into the same thing recently for my 2004 boxster)...
Nav units used in 996/986 are all the same... the 2003-2004 model year moved to the PCM2 system. Check your software version (press main and trip at the same time). Latest sofware version is 3.0
If your car is pre-2003, then you may be able to use the GM/Vauxhall discs as described above (if so, you're very lucky!).
If, like me, you have the PCM2, then you're stuck replying on the porsche discs, which are 350-450 as you suspected... problem is the last version was only updated in 2005 and there may be no updates going forwards (which i think is really poor, as Navteq continue to make map updates but Porsche has refused to provide disc updates).
