Am I the only one irritated to find out today this club has now decided to have an in-field presence at Silverstone?

Last week I bought 2 tickets for the event, non redeemable, expensive.

Looks like I'll be in my Skoda instead of my 73T.

Not exactly United by the Drive...

We have decided to run this as a Classic and Modern Classic (sixes and sevens) event…….

I think it’s an undercover meeting of the 996/7 register. 🤣🤣

Silverstone Classics

BDRC, several used to call it the Silverstone Classic or even the Silverstone Coys meeting.

Here off the email from PCGB:

With the Silverstone Festival now taken up by Carfest, the British Racing Drivers Club is revising the original Silverstone Classic weekend. Now in July the lineup has historic touring cars, a celebration of Group C endurance racers, GT3 Legends, Pre War Sports Cars, Formula 1 for cars from the 60s to the 80s, as well as many other races.

Although this is aimed at the modern classic group, all owners are welcome. We have decided to run this as a Classic and Modern Classic (sixes and sevens) event, and we have a discount code for a two for one offer, and infield parking for members. Please be aware that the club will not have tea and coffee on site, but we will have a club infield area and look forward to seeing you there.

Sunstede was buys on Sat (sold-out) and maybe the Club's stand got a lot of comments for the Silverstone event.
This event I guess will just be secure parking zone infield, something quick and easy to sort out with just 4 weeks to go.

Last minute with no notice seems to be the order of the day for PCGB now ;)
United by the Drivel.

Unfortunate that we have received such derogatory comments. The dates for this were released after we had secured sites for the Cotswolds Rally, which is on the same weekend. That will take up so much of the club’s resources that the decision was taken not to invest in this new event, especially as nobody knew what the take up would be, as this is not the Silverstone Festival as it has been run previously.
I made the decision for the modern classic groups, which includes the 996 and 997 to take a space on a smaller scale and run it as a register event, and the listing has been up for a month or so now. Take up has been slow, so the CH team kindly said they could include it in the next event email.
This has nothing to do with a u turn, or waiting until after Sunstede, or anything last minute. It is not ‘under cover’ in any way, it was something I arranged for a couple of registers, and got support from CH.
Almost makes it not worth trying to do these things when volunteers take time to organise and attend, only to get criticized for their efforts. Hopefully the ‘Drivel’ will be a great weekend.
Tickets £65 for the weekend, which is much better value than it was before, and I will put more diesel in than that to get down there and back to run the Infield area we will have. There is a way of speaking to Silverstone to get an infield pass, as a couple of other members have done this, I think it would just take a phone call or email.

Pleased that PCGB have a presence although we could have gone in the MX-5, the GT Legends alone are worth the ticket cost to me :)

Ditto, I have volunteered for over 30 years at hill climb events and I know what it takes.
Im just miffed that pcgb said they were not doing the event, so bought 2 tickets just to go to the event, been going there for decades, then this turns up.
Will take the Skoda and leave the 911 at home as said.
