Still trying to come up to the potential of the 964RS , if I (ever) get there, either I'll retire from trackdays ( wife's favourite option) , or I'll trade up to a GT3 Mk1 in any colour bar white.....
anyway , Donington today was good , weather OK and can only remember one red flag which did not hold up proceedings for long. Loads of people in the briefing but organisers did a good job in keeping the track from being crowded. Apart from getting out of the way of the GT3RS's , and not being able to outdrive a Mitsubishi wotsit , honour was satisfied . Car got A- , driver got C+ , instructor lived for another day.....[

Nice to meet you fellas today. I thought the day was nice and relaxed. We kept getting stuck behind the odd Boxster with no mirrors, but hey! Certainly didn't spoil the day. John Probert told me to get the young instructor David to coach me and when he was in my passenger seat I was delighted to pass the odd GT3 RS! Woo-hoo!!
I had new Pirelli Corsas put on in the afternoon instead of the Dunlop SSRs. They were slightly grippier than the SSRs, but I must say they aren't worth £350-£400 more for the set. John Probert's car felt more stable in the bends on his Dunlop D 01 Js, so I might try them next. Or the Michelin Cup but their wet/cold weather performance worries me.
Rob - You're welcome. Track cleared up later in the morning so I tried to find you again to take you for a proper spin - guessed you must have gone home. If you are thinking of getting one I don't think you will regret it (unless your Mrs leaves you).

Yeah nipped home to grab some sun tan cream (forgot to take with me) and decided to spend the day loafing in the garden with a couple of bottles of Becks.
Their would be NO regrets (even if she did leave me) it would be worth it!!
See you on the Dyno Day 2nd July

Yes I had a great day in my 993RS, with perfect weather and track conditions.
After lunch I had some instruction off young "Dave" who really helped me get some quick lines.
On the topic of Dunlop Road legal track tyres, I run SSR's on the GT3 and DO1J's on the 993.In my opinion the 1J's have the edge on the track in good conditions and seem to last forever!!
Regards
John
Shame you didn't come back in the afternoon, track was much more flowing and would have made for a much better ride than in the morning. See you on the 2nd July.
Oldtimer/Johnny - I have the MPSC tyres on my car and they feel in a different league to other tyres I have tried in the dry. They just grip and grip, with little flex or movement and car feels like it is on rails. I drove a GT3 on SSRs at Donington and it was a very different feeling, much more supple and forgiving and good feedback as you could feel them load up. If you have 2 sets of wheels, one of them should be wearing MPSCs even though rubbish in the wet and expensive.
Oltimer - I might try D01Js, what sizes were you using and do you have a good source and prices pls.
