Hi i have had the Aliexpress unit gitted to my 987.1 Cayman for a while i had intermittent issues with connection to Zlink and not really happy with the sound, so I have reverted back to my original pccm. Can someone tell me is it possible to connect a sim card to it to have phone connection. I am going to save my pennies for a new pccm+ (£1400) until then just wondering if the old unit can be upgraded in anyway.

I think that if you are going for the Porsche Classic upgrade, then its not treally worth doing anything else in the interim. There are a number of options but they are all a few £hundred.

It would be good to hear from those who have tried them.

Your phone provider should be able to get you a 2nd SIM card for £5-£6/month. Simply pop the SIM in the tray and you can answer your calls on either unit. HOWEVER, I strongly suggest don't do this and instead get a Bluetooth unit instead as this will give you the ability to use your phone as is, hands free, with no recurring charges, as well it will give you streaming from your phone and it will give you a USB thumb drive socket in lieu of the front mounted CD changer (if you have one installed).
Dension, Mobridge and NavTV all have Bluetooth/USB solutions available.

The other thing you can do is add one of these: https://www.alpine.co.uk/p/Products/SingleView/hds-990 to the PCM 2.1. This is as well as doing the above. It will become the heart of your system and your PCM will become an input to it. This then gives you a much higher quality music playback solution whilst retaining the factory look. It won't however, give you Apple CarPlay or Android Auto - for that, you'd need to do a head unit replacement, e.g. the PCCM+ you've mentioned. That said, please be aware that the PCCM+ is just an overpriced Android head unit with Porsche branding - it is not made by the same company as the original and isn't as integrated. It's arguably a worse product than one from Alpine, JVC, Kenwood, Pioneer or Sony and sells purely on the back of Porsche marketing and aesthetic integration with the HVAC controls. A proper car stereo will give a better overall experience in most cases.
