Hi

Has anyone had fitted a PPCM Plus system fitted.

I am thinking of having one fitted to my 1999 Carrera 996 and would like to know if anyone has had this done and if you would reccommend it.

Thanks

Michael

Hi,

Yes I have fitted one to my 996 Turbo and I think it's a brilliant bit of kit. A tad on the expensive side plus you have to buy the maps. Although you can skip this if you use google maps via CarPlay.

I installed it myself with the help of the Porsche technical information (the units don't come with instructions - well mine didn't) and it was pretty straightforward especially as I already had a PCM 1. The existing antenna also works fine as does the Bose.

If your car doesn't already have a PCM 1 installed you will need a DIN 2 cage.

Brilliant

Thanks for your feedback on the PCCM as I'm not very auto electrical savvy will get the local auto electrician to install !!
Thanks again

Michael

My son has it in his 996 4S, its really great except we are having issues with the DAB/FM/AM radio. Maps, CarPlay etc. is fine.

My 996 turbo was the first car Williams Crawford down in Saltash Cornwall did when they first came out a couple of years ago.
One of the best upgrades the car had totally modernised it the only downside is plunging your phone it gets carplay as it is NOT wireless!!
But after-market devices can be found to get around that for £100 ish also it is an expensive Android head unit but works very well and
Waze is the way to go for maps and directions
.Hope that helps
Regards Gordon.

I've just taken the plunge and got my local Porsche main agent in Guildford to fix the PCCM+ in my 20 year old Boxster, collected at end of week in pouring rain. Now had a chance to read the manual and with a sunny day, thought I'd work out how it works. Not having much luck so far. The Sat Nav works but I can't get any music, followed the instructions under Tuner both for DAB+ and FM to see station list but just have a blank screen see photos. It's as if the system doesn't have an aerial connected, but it must be something more than that. Keen to use before taking it back when Dealership reopens. Any advice please?

A little surprised that the dealer installed the PCCM+ and didn't check it was working!!

I had a similar problem when I installed mine and the solution was as follows:

Press the settings menu button and then touch and hold the volume section for 10 seconds. That will bring up another menu.
Press the CAN switch button once to change from CAN to AMP and then restart the system (Ignore the warning!)

Hope this works.

I agree, I would have thought that dealer would have checked everything before handing over.
Many thanks for advice, I'll try tomorrow. Hopefully it might also sort out why it doesn't recognise my phone for bluetooth pairing.

I tried pressing the settings and then the volume button but that just turns the unit off? Must be doing something wrong.

When you press settings ‘volume’ appears on the screen. Touch this for 10 secs to bring up the CAN switch menu. Not the volume control knob which will turn the unit off!

Sorry, wasn't aware there was a 2nd volume control. Tried that now and some obscure stations appeared, no BBC and then after about 5 seconds back to blank screen again. Many thanks for your help, I suspect it's back to the dealership tomorrow.

That's strange. I have the installation instructions from Porsche which I can send you if you PM an email address.

Despite it being pricey, this was the best investment/upgrade I did to my Turbo. Really brings the car up-to-date and makes it so much more usable. Will also make my navigation ever so slightly easier when I head on a big Euro trip in a weeks time.

I have recently had a PCCM+ fitted by my local main agent in Guildford. All works fine apart from radio, can't get any stations on DAB or FM. You indicated you had issues, what were there and how resolved?

Thanks for your earlier help. You'll see from the thread that I still haven't got the PCCM+ working properly after 3 weeks and main agent is particularly slow in sorting. I sorted out SD card requirements but still can't get any radio stations. I'm convinces something wrong with aerials.

Tried the CAN - AMP switch over via the Volume advanced menu. No joy. Actually switching to AMP causes AM signal and the illumination on the buttons on the head unit to cut off.

I also have what seems to be be a weird issue. When the car is stationery everything is fine but when in motion DAB / FM / AM all seem to struggle keeping a consistent signal and the output sound fades in and out.

It doesn’t seem to be related with the location / driving path. Rest of the functionality of the pccm plus unit seems to be operational as expected. Recently acquired 996 2004 with BOSE (CD Changer and AMP in front trunk)

Any suggestions/checks ? Read a thread about the wrong connections and loop back in the antenna piece etc.

Wanted to see if anyone else has experienced a similar issue before I start dismantling things…

Thanks
