Passenger Window Not Working

Hi all

After many happy months of window operation, my joyful bliss came crashing down in a few bad weeks.

Firstly the off-side passenger window switch broke, and once removed gave a lovely rattling noise when shook. After looking inside I was impressed that the ball bearing switch mechanics had lasted as long as it had. Anyway, switches are not that expensive and I plan to replace it shortly. Unfortunately putting it back in place to fill the hole broke the brittle clip on the door trim, so I have to replace that now too!

My girlfriend then managed to push her switch into the door cavity the next day, possibly I hadn't seated it correctly after fixing the passenger door lock a few days previous. Anyway, I seated that back in place and will replace the surrounding trim along with the drivers side just in case. But, a matter of days later, her window decided to ignore all attempts to move it.

I have changed the off-side passenger window switch with the drivers window switch, nothing. I have also tried the working drivers switch with the near-side passenger switch, nothing. I have tried the non-working passenger switch in the drivers window switch, and it worked. I have looked in the fuse box and it appears there is no fuse for the passenger window only, so the fact the drivers window works with the passenger switch means the problem must be isolated to the passenger side.

So, before I go buying a host of new/reclaimed spares, is this likely to be a failed motor, despite it showing no signs of problem before? Is there a relay controlling each side or one for both? Are there any other suggestions? Now the weather is actually warm, she'd quite like to be able to wind her window down!

Thanks

Chris

Chris,

Between this and your central locking thread, I can only assume you are tackling all the 'leccy jobs at the same time.

Same applies here; some diagnostic fault-finding is needed. Although it sounds like you are most of the way there and it is likely to be either a duff motor or a poor connection.

Are you coming to the garage day on Saturday? If so, it's the sort of thing we could tackle then.

No, I'm being fick.

Sorry.

It's still Sunday, and we are still expecting you to dispense excellent burgers and sage wisdom in equal measures, while I attempt to float on water (and fail.) [:)]

Bring what you want me to cook all will be well. I might even come in the cab and show off the new hood.

Ah yeah I did see that garage thread. I'd love to come over but I'm not sure what joys Sunday will bring me as I think I'm on call so can't venture very far. I'll try to rearrange though!

The annoying thing is, I had the wiring largely sorted by the auto-electrician. All that was left was getting the central locking and rear wiper going, and to fit the battery isolator in the new hole he made. He's pretty much disappeared off the face of the earth though, without being paid! So while I'm £180 in pocket, bits still don't work.

In addition to the window, twice in very hot weather the electric sunroof arms have either failed to move or have moved slower than my dad away from a free buffet! So a bit of help would be most welcome!
