PASM randomly turning itself off and on again?

Hi,

Hoping someone can help with an odd one.

I have a 2007 997 Carrera S and yesterday it seems to have developed a strange issue where the PASM switches itself off and then after around 10 seconds turns itself back on again… it did it a couple of times on a drive yesterday and on a 30 min drive today it did it 3/4 times in the first 10 mins but then didn’t do it again for the final 20 mins. Very bizarre.

Has anyone else experienced this? Any advice on what I need to do to sort?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Lee,

Do you get an error message when this happens? Back in the day of my early 987 Cayman ownership my PASM failed completely and eventually it was traced to a pinched cable … it took the tech most of the day to find it after liaising with the factory!

Clearly yours is an intermittent fault, which is always difficult to trace, but I think the most efficient way forward is to run some Porsche-specific diagnostics (PIWIS or equivalent) to see if any error codes have been flagged-up, otherwise you’re into checking connections, swapping electronic modules, etc. You’ll need to solicit the help of your local Porsche dealer or a reputable Porsche Independent, the latter most likely being a much cheaper alternative.

Pasm is "on" all the time, if you press the button and the light comes on its putting PASM into "performance" mode? So when you say switches off and on again - what are you actually seeing (light and message wise) and what state was it in to start with - did you press the button to get the light to come on or does it start up in that mode ?

I had a PASM error on my dashboard. Used to come on after 5 minutes and then stay on. Needed a new Shock absorber in the end. £750 for a Porsche shock and £350 for a Bilstein, so bought 2 and changed both the front shocks. Car feels great now.
