Part Weights

ORIGINAL: 944 man

Neil, at the risk of sounding like a 'how to save weight' letter sent in to Viz: save 5kgs by only filling your washer bottle with one litre of water; if its full itll add 6kgs.... [:D]   In a similar vein: save 50 kilos and a small fortune by never putting more than £10 worth of petrol in your tank.....[;)]

20th of April 2009 Edd... [:D]

I dont think that we disagree about oil. Without a doubt synthetic oil is best, but some grades simply didnt end up suiting our 2.7l/3.0l engines as well as Porsche had hoped.

Well I split you guys down the middle by running with 10-60 fully synth Millers CFS. Will be moving on to their new nanotech stuff when it comes more widely available.

My 944 Turbo has the full monty aircon wise which, i am just about to ditch (even though it works perfectly). Does anyone know how much weight i will save by doing so? And, will i be able to "ave it" with the geezer with the McClaren who lives a few streets up from me?

Going back to Edds post over the page - much of the weight in the front wings is actually sealer. A new original front wing weighs very little bare. Theyre also far from durable too and Ive seen them rust within two years, which mustve hurt the owner because even then they cost £300 each.

The sealer up in the corner near the windscreen is unbelievably thick, I can well believe there is a few pound in sealer in there. The FG ones made up in Brum are also pretty thick and strong, if anything their suitability for racing is as much about toughness and low cost as in expendable, as it is about weight saving.
