Hi all - only days to go before I collect my new Turbo S Cab. I am anticipating the usual sales pitch for paint protection. I have heard good reports about Gen 3 Glasscoat. Not sure if Porsche supports it but was wondering if any of you guys have any experience of the product and therefore any recommendations. Part of me says that cleaning it myself with care, attention and quality products is probably my best bet. Any views please?

What you said - spend your money wisely on good care products, don't waste it on semi-permanent 'protection' coatings. Paint manufacturers spend a fortune on coatings technology and companies like Porsche use the best available (which isn't cheap, even to them). Would you add an oil additive to your Mobil 1? Thought not and the same applies with paint!
IMHO of course (oh, and 35 years experience as a paintshop manufacturing engineer).

+1 for Gtechnic had a full detail done inside and out absolutely first class product!!

I have copied this across from an earlier post.

I turned down OPC's kind offer of Gap Insurance and Supaguard but had arranged for G techniq to be applied by a specialist detailer. Paul, came over yesterday and having had a good look round said the paint was very good indeed. Not always the case in his experience but he was very happy with mine. Car was still showroom clean of course but he nevertheless spent 7 hours applying G Techniq and general fettling and faffing about inside and out. Paul assures me it will make it easier to wash the car, though I have to confess that is not one of my strong suits. He was not able to do much to the wheels because of the centre locks and the relatively small gap between the 410 rotor and the inner surface of the wheel. Fortunately that is all black so not something I am likely to be troubled by. Paul said the diamond cut wheels were a nightmare to refurbish so that has made me like the current wheel and centre locks even less than before.

So far I'm 3k miles in and have been pretty pleased. Certainly the little car cleaning I do is easier and rain still beads nicely. Apart from a nasty stone chip on the PU which no paint protection would have prevented all is good.

Another +1 for G Techniq. Treat it with care when washing and it'll last and last. Still beading up nicely on mine after two years.
