Over heating warning light

I have another question.

Took the car out for a good run at the weekend all was well apart from after driving very hard for a good few miles the warning light came on i think it was after cornering around a large roundabout a little bit quickly, i checked the water level and it was fine up to the max mark never moved, i turned the engine off re-started straight away and during my 25 mile drive home it did not come on once.

Had anyone had this before??

Yes-In exactly the same situation. Very hard thrash etc. I think its quite common and nothing to worry about. Switching on and off fixes it. Although there is always a risk a pipe has gone but if the temps Ok keep going!!!
 
Likewise, I had the same with a flashing water light. I did eventually get a cracked water bottle diagnosed but exactly the same symtoms as you describe.
 
There was a post about this awhile ago, I think you will find this very common.. Mine does this also while on a good run, but as soon as you turn the ignition off and on again it stops. Just a little disconcerting
 
For what it is worth, the Boxster also does this. It has a strange magnetic float for the level sensor.
 
Thats interesting i thought i new the car well after having it for well over a year, and shall not worry about it then.

Mine does it too. When you boot it hard, the water pump will be spinning fast and will "pull" on the circulating volume - which can cause a momentary dip in the level at the reservoir tank - at the same time the car is rapidly accelerating which can slosh the water about inside the tank and hence activate the sensor to indicate a low water warning (flashing engine temp light). If you were having engine temp problems the light would illuminate constantly without flashing and the needle would probably be in the red.
It is nothing to worry about if it happens every now and then, but if you need to constantly replace water then you have a small leak somewhere.
