Oulton Park

I've just booked myself in for the PCGB track-day at OP next week. The forecast is very good and there are only 40 attendees at the moment. At just over 200 quid it makes a lot of sense, I feel. If I manage to put another 900 miles on the GT4, as intended, I'll be in that, if not I'll dust off the old RS.

Fancy a late one?

Would love to attend but I have one car with its suspension in bits waiting on parts and the other car blocked in by my neighbours scaffolding [:(]

New red car --- I wonder what that would be ???

Not new as such but a new type of sportscar experience to him. Still hoping that we will see it on Wednesday before it gets tucked up for the winter. [:)]

In the mean time....I've booked my old 964 on for the day and will bring the kettle too...I expect a GT4 passenger ride in return for tea! [;)]

Just to say the Red car will not be at Oulton , but I intend to be there....might be too late for Steve Kevlin's briefing , but I'll do my best [;)]

Steve, John (and Chris),
Really glad you're going to be there, it wouldn't be the same without you. Any chance of Kev coming along? You'll be very welcome to a ride, of course.

Hi Ian (and all),
Got a lot on at present and feel a bit spooked after Spa so won't be bringing either of the RS out to play again this year.

Will try and get over round lunchtime for a couple of hours, will bring helmet just in case you have a pax slot free!

Cheers,
Kevin

Well , I was there ! And I was too late for Steve K's 'briefing' !

Red car left behind ( London ) so as it was a Porsche event brought the 356 .... the car that founded the sporting success of the marque and also generated enough money back in the day to pay off the ransom on the old Prof and free him from a French prison [;)] . Fortunately I was not driving on the track in it , looked a bit too slippy for me .

Thanks for the GT4 rides from Ian H and Chris W . A good successor to a 964RS at a sensible price . Conditions were not right for exploiting all the car's potential , especially the stopping power of Chris's PCBs :ROFLMAO:

Yes I was lucky enough to get a ride in Chris's GT4 as well. What a car!! Incredibly complete and competent car even in the damp conditions, what a package!

Thanks to Chris for some great laps [:)]

All,
Sorry i couldn't get down, look forward to the first day of 2016 - will it be an RS day?
Cheers,
Kevin

I was there too & really lucky getting a session with Steve-great 964 experience-lovely air cooled flat 6 howling all the way round & then later in Chris's GT4 complete with suitable soundtrack & those brakes-whow!-tyres seemed almost at melting point on the then dry track.Certainly ticks all the boxes as promised-seems no problems at Oulton regarding "long" gearing-with the sweet engine quite willing to sweep round to the red line giving great flexibility in 2nd & 3rd.

Many thanks Steve & Chris[:)]

And no understeer whatsoever. Difficult day, very late start and tricky conditions resulting in a few red flags. Improved in the afternoon, dried out, mainly and saved the day but it was all over and done just after 4pm ,

See you all next year, I hope.

Yep, much too slow to start. By the time all the messing about had finished we were left with a total of one hour track time before lunch! I've sent my thoughts about this to the club and urge others to do so.

Agreed. Once the hour goes back the daylight is added at the beginning of the day so surely the briefing should be brought forward not still be going on at 9:30. It was 10.30 before our session even started. And OK is was slippery but for the same car to go off twice in the same area resulting in the red flags just after lunch was a little inconsiderate IMHO.
I would rather pay more and have an Oulton day when there is more daylight.
Will write to Steve.

Yes it was great day --- 'was disappointed in the morning that the car felt edgy and would nudge quickly sideways at every opportunity with a tad too much throttle, only to discover that the car I was chasing was both fast and on normal road tyres (wets) !
Maybe the PSCup2's were a little too new ?? Anyway, as soon as the track started to dry out and we picked up a little more feel the car was tremendous and towards the end of the day it felt to be going pretty quickly.
As always, I enjoy giving passenger rides and so many thanks for the comments of those willing victims who also help to make the day really worthwhile :)
And yes, the GT4 is a great car. 'Spiritual successor to the 964RS ??
