Oulton Park - March 9th

Was a fantastic event - I arrived in time for the afternoon session - when it had all dried out. I didn't run myself as i wasn't sure if i was going to make it, and also my tyres, Race Maxx, were pretty marginal. Primarily wanted to take in the sights and sounds - see some of these cars at full chat, being used as intended. Met some really nice people - even managed to get some passenger laps in fiercely piloted GT4.... and was loaned a helmet... Many thanks to Jason and Kevin. Loads of GT4s - which was great for me! A number of 991.2 GT3s which was great to see - there was a black one which was intent on buzzing the pit wall every lap!. As mentioned there was also an 991.2 Cup car getting having a shakedown which was great. Whole event definitely has given me the bug to get out on track next time - so looking for the next events now!!.

Sounds like you might have the bug for it indeed!

For your info, the guy buzzing the pit wall was actually doing it because that's the racing (qualifying) line (and he's done a fair bit of Porsche racing). Those that have raced at Oulton (and instructors) will tell you that the pit straight from the rise at deer leap to the end of the pit wall should be treated as a long curve i.e. you let the car drift to the wall and back again because that's the fast way. However, on trackdays most of us keep left on the straight to prevent others close behind think we are moving over to let them pass. Because if we didn't, there could be a coming together as we head into the bend at Old Hall.

Good photos Chris.

I wish I had been able to attend the RS day. Oulton is probably my favourite circuit in the UK.

Nice stats on the G-force. I'll post mine after my Knockhill shake-down session on March 28th. I'm anticipating the PS4S N0's to post more LH G's than my previous P-Zero N1's at the same circuit last year..........hopefully it'll be dry on the day.

Brian

Thanks Brian,

I'm guessing the 1.62 is Shell Oils ... and if you crash the g-force is even higher :)

The game is in maximising the minimum speeds ... and everything else follows until you try not to fall-off ..

But it's the only way I can give an indication of how sorted the car now is ... timing is not allowed !

Have fun at Knock-Hill ... the above was on MPSC2's ... and they were starting to go off.

Another Scottish friend, Rob who drives a red 991.2 GT3, who I met via PCGB trackdays came to the RS day for the first time (got a last minute entry because of the numerous late drop outs). At the start he said to me; "I've come to this because of your recommendation". I replied; "it's like a PCGB day only a lot faster". He said; "You've got me worried now!". At the end of the day he came up to me and said; "Thanks Steve, this has been the best track day I've ever been on!" I think that says it all about the RS day.

1.62 wow I did get a 1.5 in the end on mine after the geo, 1.62 is going some Now.

i,ll have to go out in it next time.

The 1.62 G-fore stat is probably flattered by the heavily banked Shell Oils hairpin at Oulton. "Normal" track corners probably record nearer the <1.5> mark, particularly with MPSC2's fitted.

For my interest at my forthcoming track session, I recorded 1.38 LH G-force last time out at Knockhill in my 718 CS on P-Zero N1. The PS4S N0 should top this figure.

While staying on the track of course......

Spud got 1.73 around Shell in my Boxster, it was the 1st time he'd ever driven it. He was only -1.29 around Cascades. Car was only on Toyo R888R and not slicks.spud.JPG

Yes spud is a very handy driver :)

This was on MPSC2's ... taking readings off the car.

This is the highest I've seen so far ... it's good to know that I can probably push for more ... and very interesting to see how much more can be found at ShellOils over and above the other corners which in Spuds trace are very close to 1.2g ...

Checking times after the event I found another 1.5 seconds off my previous best, so I was quite happy !!

That's excellent then Chris, makes the improvements worthwhile.... the car is in great spec now, us drivers need to catch up [;)]

Can't help thinking how lucky we were with the weather. Seems we enjoyed one of the few decent, dry days in ages.

..and in sunny Devon, I can't get out today to drive to Silverstone for a track day as we have too much snow.
