Whilst backing off my sisters driveway in the pouring rain ( unusual for Preston !! ) a prat in a Seat AlaAlaAlabrammbaaa ( who the hell would buy one of those floating ocean liners especially on a 53 plate ) parked directly opposite within 6 ft when he could have parked anywhere else and yep my fault I smacked the front wing on the concrete post.

Quite frankly well cheesed off - the dent can be removed but the wing needs a respray ( bodyshop or a specialist ) oh well.

Very annoying, especially when you know it's your own fault (but it wouldn't have happened if the other car wasn't there).

I did a similar thing last week, while trying to reverse away from a car parked about 2" off my front bumper and nastily kerbed my rear wheel [] I still haven't stopped kicking myself!

In such situations I find that, with enough reference to circumstances, someone else can be blamed - ".....I wasn't thinking because of your phone call ten minutes previously.."etc. etc. Using such an approach I find Belinda is to blame for most things that go wrong in my life. I don't know why she puts up with me.

Sorry to hear about both of your misfortunes. I can confirm that they weren't Belinda's fault.

If it's any help, the wing is only single skinned, so a dint is possible to knock out (see below!) The wing had a 5cm dint in previously.

would it be usual to use some filler to sort out such bumps ?

the reason i ask is that i took my car to the body shop to have some rust in the cills sorted and the guy there told me that the front edge of my front wing (by the headlamp) has some filler in it.

am i now worrying unnecessarily ??

I think it's pretty normal. If you get a minor panel dent then you have 3 choices:
1. Live with it
2. Replace the panel
3. Have the dent repaired and painted if required

Clearly if it's viable then option 3 is the best as it keeps the original panel and doesn't disturb sealant on the seams etc. but what if the dent doesn't pop out invisibly? I'd rather have a fine skim of properly applied filler to make it look right than a new panel.

I take it you don't ever watch American Hotrod? On that the body guy (who is beyond excellent) goes over every shell with "Bondo", which is American Plastic Padding as far as I can see, before he paints them and that's on totally sound, undamaged panels with zero rust (they cut any rust out and weld in new metal).

Of course filler should only ever be a thin skim, if it's inches thick then that's a bodge.

An old workmate of mine came from a very 'dodgy' family that used to run a number of salvage yards. One of their staff was a dab hand at applying filler by the bucket load with a number plate to cars that had been rolled. Afterwards you just could not tell that the roof was all caved in []

I have just returned from completeing 500 incident free miles at the ring... drove there and back No problems...

...2 days after I return my mum reversed her Bm in to my pride and joy in the drive!!!

her excuse... it wasnt there last time i reversed out of teh drive!! AND she has parktronic fitted!!!!
