OT - Silverstone

Hello all,

Off topic, but I'm going to Silverstone on Saturday with the speed limiting device.

Having never been before, I was wondering if anyone can recommended some good vantage points for watching practice/quali/GP2 races?

Thanks in advance!

Graham

Inside and outside of Copse (first corner at end of start finish straight). You can get between the 2 with the tunnel at the end of the pitlane. Good point to appreciate the speed of something like a GP2 car. Then go along to grandstands on the outside of the complex. (near Woodcote corner), there is always some open and you can park behind (if you have the car), or you can walk. Good view of all of the complex, good place to watch the racing.

I am assuming they are racing on the GP or National circuit of course.

Not been to a GP meeting for years, but I know that stands are often extra cost even for Saturday's.
Having said that, Copse and Woodcote both have terraces and are not too far apart. StandsI like are Club and Village especially the the one on the left as you walk up behind them. They are both a good walk from Woodcote and Copse

Bear in mind the new GP pits start etc are now at the bottom end between Club and the old Abbey corners.

back in Titanic's hey days it was a regular thing to meet up at Silverstone for the free F1 practise sessions. Fun times that I'm sure some on this forum can remember, for what now has become the good old days..

Thanks h & Milke - will try those on Saturday.

Free F1 practice - those were the days, eh Pete!

Yes Graham - I remember them well[:D]
- only stopped going to the GP when basic admission hit what was an absolute fortune to me - £30 I think.......

Please read the updates! Can't get on the Silverstone website but this was posted on their Facebook page at 20:30 today (Friday):

UPDATE: Silverstone are strongly encouraging fans with public car parking on Saturday not to come to Silverstone tomorrow, 7 July. Unless spectators have PRE-BOOKED park and ride or are in local campsites and able to walk to the circuit we strongly advise that they do not attend the qualifying day of the 2012 Formula 1 Santander British Grand Prix.

The reasons we have taken this action is due to the fact that we have lost some of our car parks today in the awful wet weather that we have suffered over the last weeks, and, in particularly, the last 36 hours. We must do our very best to protect as much of our car parking as possible ahead of Sunday.

Fans will be refunded for any unused Friday or Saturday tickets and full details on how this will be handled will be communicated early next week.

BBC News story about Silverstone / Saturday

"British GP: 20,000 fans asked to avoid Silverstone
Up to 20,000 ticket holders are being asked to stay away from Saturday's qualifying sessions at Silverstone."

yes it was on sky news too, the advice is to avoid Silverstone... I was watching the practise on sky F1 this morning, one of the commentators said he lived 4 miles from the circuit and it took him two hours to get there, same old Silverstone...lol

Pete

Yes, got an email from Silverstone to that effect. Bugger!

Thanks for the heads up though.

Quick update.

The email from Silverstone last night said they were "strongly encouraging fans with public car parking on Saturday not to come to Silverstone tomorrow"

However, they have sent another one out this morning that now says -

People with general admission/roving or grandstand tickets who do not have park and ride and were planning to arrive by car should not attempt to approach the circuit as they will turned away and could be stuck in heavy traffic for many hours.

So that's that!!
