Original Stereo

ORIGINAL: Copperman05 AFN?
Big dealer back then, you often see their name on numberplates etc on cars. By PCGB he meant Porsche Cars GB, not Porsche Club GB! [:)] Were AFN the dealership that's now West London? Seem to remember it was where my Dad bought his 944s from back in the mid-80s.

My S2 has a Clarion tape/radio stereo which I presume is not original as its dated 1994 on the back. Did 944's have Clarion stereo's as standard or was it only the Blaupunkt?

I am thinking of updating the current Clarion to a more modern one or perhaps a Blaupunkt, will either of these fit into the existing head unit?

Your help is appreciated.

Edd

AFN were the original import concessionaires, before Porsche muscled in / took over (depending on how you see it).

AFN became a wholly owned subsidiary of Porsche and until relatively recently they operated a number of dealerships. I think that the one youre referring to is now called Porsche West London.

AFN stands for Archibald Fraser-Nash. AFN stumbled from receiver to receiver, making chain drive cars before the war and BMW based cars after the war. They introduced BMW cars (pre-war)and Porsche cars (post-war) to England.
