Original Stereo

Hi,

I am trying to find out what original stereo would have been fitted to my 91 944S2 - is it a Becker unit like th CD23 or is it something a bit earlier than that ?. The car has an Alpine system which is very nice but does not look very original.

Thanks

Ian

My 1992 S2 had the original Becker radio/cassette (labelled as Porsche) although I can't remember the exact model no. CD23 sounds familiar though.
It also had a graphic equaliser and Cd changer fitted, all original.
Paul944S2 on here has the car now so send him an email and he could tell you the details, he also has the owners manuals.

As far as I know they all came with Blaupunkt equipment. The optional 10 speaker equipment with the additional equalizer also features Blaupunkt material.

edit : Steve was quicker.

There seems to be a bit of variety here - does anyone know if there is a source of a definitive answer - one of the concours judges perhaps ?

Thanks

Ian

Try your local OPC (Porsche Kendal) formerly Parker and Parker. Ask for Roy Parker, Roy is a really nice guy and will hopefully get someone to answer the question from the Parts Dept. (they should have all the info).

If that doesn't work let me know and I'll speak to Phil Clark, he is the Concours Chairman. (I don't want to give you his details on the forum). You can PM me with your contact details if necessary.

Cheers,

Becker cr21 radio cassette player with 10 disc multichanger (all Porsche badged) and Blaupunkt BEA80 graphic equaliser.. was factory fitted to my car.

The standard option was Blaupunkt Symphony radio casette with 4 speakers in the S2 with other options available such as Panasonic CQ-F35 RADIO / CASSETTE this was standard in the turbo.

Grundig 5500 RDS radio/cassette @£261.63, Porsche cd10 autochanger @£477.16 or the Sony disc jockey mulichanger+ headunit for a mere £1342.32.

All prices were + vat.... a bargain

It urned out to be the Blaupunkt Symphony that was fitted to my car - Kendal OPC found out for me . All I have to do now is find one .......

Thanks

Ian

I have been searching the dreaded 'bay for months looking for a (decent) Symphony. Let alone the Holy Grail of the corresponding glovebox manual!

I feel a bidding war approaching [;)]

Thanks Paul. Great to meet you today and I'm very pleased with the wheels.

All the best

AFN?

Big dealer back then, you often see their name on numberplates etc on cars. By PCGB he meant Porsche Cars GB, not Porsche Club GB! [:)]

Were AFN the dealership that's now West London? Seem to remember it was where my Dad bought his 944s from back in the mid-80s.

AFN were the original import concessionaires, before Porsche muscled in / took over (depending on how you see it).

AFN became a wholly owned subsidiary of Porsche and until relatively recently they operated a number of dealerships. I think that the one youre referring to is now called Porsche West London.
