What's a cassette?
My 1991 car still has the original Blaupunkt Symphony stereo with a separate graphic equaliser below. The system really looks great and sounds good but no RDS so a pain in the a55 to keep tuning every few miles. Tape player is good and nice to listen to my old cassettes of Yazoo but again, a right pain searching for tracks...!
If you use the car a lot then I'd get a modern system with a retro look.

I dont drive the car daily mostly in the warmer weekends, cassettes sound ok to me so no problem with that I have found a David Bowie cassette called Diamond Dogs that brought back memories cant wait to get one fitted[]

Well it works just got to swap it over if i don't like it i can always swap back only a 10 min job to do
The radio does not have a switched live so ill have to go back to turning it off with the switch on the unit
I have noticed it has the cable for an electric aerial were these fitted to the early car?

]I've got loads of tapes I don't want to bin. Some are illegal copies from my school days, sorry Occifer, but a few are recordings of my band from back in the '80s. I don't want to lose them, rubbish though we were.
I know there is a turntable with a USB cable, is there a tape equivalent?

Alternatively if your current hi fi system has the aux inputs you can always buy a CD burner.
(I have a full seperates system dating back to around 1990 and recently bought a matching Pioneer CD recorder of ebay for £40, still boxed with all the manuals

I saw the one in my old dear's CR-V and realised it sounds great (it's a Pioneer unit), has an aux socket for MP3 player connectivity, looks very much 'period' enough for the 944, and crucially has nigh on exactly the same backlight colour as the 944 dash lights.
Watch out though as some of them have 'HONDA' written on them which would affect the match somewhat...
The next stage is wiring it to fit though, but I thought it was worth a risk for what I paid!

TEAC make a turntable/cassette deck (for home use) in unit with a CD-RW and radio...a friend has just bought one and I helped him set it up. Nice bit of kit, it appears to do everything....even comes with an extra stylus for 78s, and has an AUX IN/OUT phono on the back (eg for reel to reel tape!). Even has a radio.
So, you could copy most of your old stuff to CD, if only you had the time!! Cost about £250 (direct from TEAC)...not bad if you're really serious about music.
BTW I agree with the OP here...my S2 has a modern Blaupunkt Alicante in dash thingy and a matching multi CD player. Works well but just doesn't look right, in fact I've bought the Blaupunkt slip on cover to hide the multi changer from view!

My S2 came with what I was told was the original radio, in a box. I looked in the box when I bought the car but didn't do any more than that, and haven't looked at it since - it's still on a shelf in the basement. Along with all the cassette storage dividers for the centre stowage space.
Perhaps I should get it out and have a look at it. Hmmm ...
