Opinion on these two mods

The 944 Workshop Manual (Vol 1A) includes a section entitled "Checking the idle speed and CO - with catalytic converter" "Model 87 onward Engine type M44.40/41".

M44.40 is the designation for the 944S engine and MY87 would have become available sometime in '86 if Porsche followed their normal practice.

From that I conclude that the 944S did (or at least could) come with a catalytic converter.

When did anyone last get a 944 camshaft from JME though Pedro? I was under the impression that they had stopped supplying them in 2007 (although I still have his link on my PC).

They were very well priced though, so say that they were new and not regrinds. It was only after JME had stopped supplying that I contacted Piper, which was probably at the end of 2007.

Maybe mine had a cat but the system on there now is a s/steel one so could have been removed already

I would really not bother with a chip or a cone filter for a N/A 944 as it will make very little difference. You'd be far better off spending your money making sure the rest of the ignition system is up to scratch first - rotor arm, distributor cap, plug leads etc
