Opened the bonnet and spotted something missing.....

Just doing a routine fluids check, and happened to notice......where the feck has that distributor housing bolt gone?...

It's only 2 months/ 500 miles since all the belts, chain etc were done, and nobody's been under the bonnet since, I therefore only conclude my Indie didn't tighten it correctly at some point. Have had to bodge a temp fix - can someone kindly tell me what bolt size/length I need? Has anybody else had one of these mysteriously 'work loose' and drop out before? []

I sspect the bolt has been overtightened at some point and damaged the threads. You can fit an M6 nut and bolt or dismantle it and helicoil the damaged thread.

Never had one work loose but had all the bolts fall out and clatter under the car after someone put my belt covers back on once. Only realised what the noise had been once I opened the bonnet and spotted most of them missing, a few hanging out loose

Called into my Indie on Saturday and they kindly fitted a nut and bolt. Luckily they also removed the belt cover to find both the others were loose. One was slightly retapped and refitted with Loctite but the 3rd was removed as the thread was stripped and I was concerned about it dropping out into the belts.

Will have to have it fixed properly when the belts are due for retensioning in 500 miles or so, as the cam belt would have to be removed to do it.

I have part of that housing spare off an S that you're welcome to if it's the right part. Can't remember which part it was now though as it came in a box of random bits.
