I have ( way on the past ) had 2 old 911's an SC and a Carrera.. one was a disaster the other great..

I am in the lucky position that I fancy having a fun car just to take out once a week for a but of fun..and I have seen a number of 944's under a £1000..

For example.. does this one sound ok or should I avoid cheap ones like the plague !.. I will do less than 3k miles a year

Buying these cars cheap usually leads to more expense in the long run so its advised to spend as much as you can afford on the initial purchase otherwise your cheap runabout will cost a fair bit just to keep in on the road...

And usually photo's are all taken at the same time, the steering wheel is at a bit of a funny angle compared to the front wheels[>:][>:]
 
Now that I have said that. I had a 911 for 17 years and sold it because I was not using it enough. Then 5 years on I remembered how much fun my old 911 was, I could not justify the cost of buying another 911 just for fun, so I looked at buying a 944, budget £4000. Bought for just over £3000, had for nearly two years, spent about £500. I have a Porsche that is a drivers car that is real fun to drive. Just spent a few days hols in the Peak District mixed with a trip to Nottingham, mixed roads and motorway 600 miles in four days, a lot of fun before the winter comes. Great cheap fun for a second car. As will be said, buy the best you can afford. Make sure it is VERY SOLID and has a good recent history and the fun begins.......................................especially if its a Turbo.......fell the booooooost[:D][:D][:D][:D][:D][:D] As you can see my priority is FUN[:D]
 
Like has been said many times "there can be nothing as expensive as a chep Porsche" however there are good cheap ones out there, 8 years ago I bought a 924S for £1400 ran it for 4 years with nothing more than service items like brakes oil brake lines etc, sold it to a friend from TIPEC 2 years ago almost and it is still going strong. So it can be done if you look for the right things and get lucky, Wish I still had it by the way as I loved that car and thought it was a much nicer car all round than my 944S2 (waits for angry response, but my opinion)

I've said many times that my oval-dash Lux was a more fun car to drive than the S2. Not as fast overall, but it could still pass speed cameras at 30, could cruise all day at motorway speed plus a little bit, and was much more lively when I wanted to play a bit.
 
Check the sills, fix the lights, but at £1k, looks good value, especially if you are prepared to do any jobs yourself (I have a white 270K 2.7 which cost me less, 18 months ago)!


Would guess there are lots of jobs which will be coming up soon.
 
For a grand, as long as the rot has not set in, you are not on a very tight budget........

You can't go wrong IMO

You might want to look for Frenchy's post he has a mate with one for £1500 ono

Andy, Steve who is selling the car is abroad working at the moment, he is looking to move it on with a view to buying a Turbo / S2, needs some TLC to the paint but is basically honest and straight, turns out that i know the previous lady owner.

I have mine on e bay for sale for £1750 ono I have spent alot of money fitting new sills etc and all of the common expensive things that go wrong have been fixed but had no interest [:(]
