Morning !

I'm no expert on this, but my best diagnosis would be the output flange seal. If you remove the 6 hex bolts that hold the driveshaft onto the output flange, you'll find a flange that has 6 bolt holes around the edge. Slap bang in the middle is a single hex bolt that connects this to the inner workings of the gearbox.

If you remove this bolt (don't do this until you've drained all the oil out of the box and don't do this until you've checked you can remove both the drain and fill plugs...) you can remove the flange.

Around the gearbox that seals this to the flange is a rubber, this would be my guess as to where you leak is coming from. If you're not sure of the anatomy of it all, look on the pet diagrams on http://dcauto.gotdns.com/model/index/3585450

Happy hunting !

Chris,

I think I know the bit is part 14 on this image. Also is it best to do both of them cars done 93k so time for changing?

Cheers

Ian

The seals only cost <£4 each, so Id do both if I was doing the job. My indie quoted me under an hours labour to do both, providing that the bolts all came undone (they can be very tight on a Turbo).

Check out the 944 foot to the floor blog. There is a guide there. Easy job but you will need a long M8 triple square tool and a torque wrench for the CV bolts and the bolt that holds the drive flange in. A seal driver or a large socket is required to get the seal in square. Beware the left side as there is no lip to drive the seal up to.

As always thanks guys,

Parts ordered, job for the weekend methinks.

The foot to the floor blog is very informative absolute godsend to a no fear of mechanics, just no knowledge, kind of guy like me.

If you've already ordered it, it's a bit late, but from the schematic you sent through I would suggest its actually part 16 !
