Oil top up

Picked up my 2019 992 Carrera 4S from an OPC about two months ago with 11k miles. It had just been serviced at 10k in October 2025.

Around three weeks ago I got a warning saying 'reduced engine power, driving permitted, visit workshop'. I called into my local OPC, a different site but part of the same group, and booked in next week to investigate.

About a week later I then got another warning saying 'oil level low, refill max 1.3'L. I went back to the supplying OPC and they topped it up. They said they would email me with how much oil they added, but I never received anything. That same evening I noticed a patch of oil on the garage floor, appeared to be excess oil underneath the car.

Today the low oil warning has come back on today and I have only done around 1,000 miles since the top up.

The car is booked in, but I wanted to ask if anyone else has experienced similar with a 992.

I had a 992 GT3 had service and warranty etc i done 3.500 miles and used about 2.5 ltrs ( top ups at different times, low oil levels etc ) don’t know if they put the right amount in when it was serviced but the car was fine, just a bit annoying though,

Did this latest ‘top up’ message appear after all of the situations and replies mentioned in the recent Facebook posts?

This does seem to be continually excessive usage, I would at least get the OPC to log your mileage and list of top ups.

Would they be able to check the exhaust for signs of oil burning?

Mine has done 5,000 miles in the last year and not regularly used daily, mainly a few long runs. I have only had to put about 1/3 litre in during that time.

Yeah its booked in next week so will ask them to specifcally check for that. Hopefully Teesside put a record on file of how much they topped up by.

That does seem excessive. 2024 4GTS here and 6k miles and only topped up perhaps 200ml and only once.

Hi Michael,

Excuse me for stating the obvious but I assume that you’ve actually been checking your oil level on a regular basis just to make sure that the oil level warning actually is valid?

You have to assume that the dealer’s tech knows what they’re doing, so you’re either losing or burning oil [smoking exhaust?] or the oil level sensor isn’t functioning correctly.

Hi Jeff.

I check the oil on my dash and sometimes it gives a reading, but most of thr time it doesn't. Same with the Porsche connect app, it does not always register a reading.

Indeed one has to imagine the tech's know what they're doing, they inform me that they put in 800ml a couple of weeks back, so for me it's odd for the light to come on so soon. No obvious signs of a leak, although the under 'tray' in the middle of the car (almost like an aluminium grid) is damp with oil and there is surface oil residue around the exhaust area, but no smells or smoke.

It's booked in Thursday for something else so they can do an initial inspection then and we shall see what the outcome is.
