There is no Mobil 1 10w-40 in the UK, the 10w-40 from Mobil here is the Mobil Super 2000 X1 10w-40.
Did you mean the Mobil 1 0w-40?

Guy
I’m intrigued to know why you would want a 10W-rated oil when the recommended oil for your 997 is 0W-40? I‘m no oil expert but even if yours is a high-mileage car I would think that a 5W-40 oil would suit and - from memory - seems to be the choice of other Members on the forums whose cars are a bit ‘leggy’.
Why not speak in more detail to Guy at Opie Oils for informed advice?

Pick yours from this list !

Specialists may offer cheaper semi-synthetic oils to lessen your bill each time, but often say change it more frequently. Porsche look at these things closely, and have approved only full synthetic oil for many years for 993 and later.
You might have an argument for higher cold viscosity on a 150K+ mile air cooled engine with leaky gaskets, but no argument against full synthetics.

Answer as to why I think as these engines get a bit older they may need a thicker oil Honestly I don't know but my Porsche specialist been using it in my 997 3.6 since I've owned it out on interest its done 66k
Regards
Age is not so important over condition. So a well maintained good conditione engine will not need to use different viscosities to what is recommended by Porsche. Only time things change, is the use of the vehicle (track car etc), heavy modifications or if it starts to consume more and more oil.

ive been using 10 - 50w Miller Nano oil,, the reason, because 0w oil is more like penetrating oil, which it is the last thing a 997.1 needs.
the down side,, you must let the car warm up completely before giving it a few beans..
Porsche recommend 0-40w because the engine can stand being hammered more when the car is cold!
just my opinion,,

can you tell me the difference between the Mobil 2000 and the 3000 ? As I’ve been using the 3000 in mine for a few years.
thanks
Thank you for your business! []
The Mobil Super 2000 range is a semi synthetic, the Mobil Super 3000 range is a synthetic and then the Mobil 1 range is their premium synthetic.
